United Airlines Announces That Chautauqua Airlines, Republic Airlines and Shuttle America Have Joined United Express

CHICAGO, Mar 8, 2004 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via COMTEX/ -- United Airlines (OTC Bulletin Board: UALAQ) today announced that Chautauqua Airlines, Republic Airlines and Shuttle America have joined United Express. Under a new agreement, United has authorized Republic to fly sixteen seventy-seat regional jets under the United Express livery. Chautauqua will operate sixteen fifty- seat regional jets for United Express and Shuttle America will fly ten Saab 340 turbo prop aircraft.

"These agreements will help us continue to meet the demands of our customers with competitive fares and a full schedule of flights to large and small communities across the country - and the world," said Doug Hacker, executive vice president - Strategy. "We are pleased to add these partners that are committed to providing outstanding customer service to the United Express family."

The thirty-two regional jets and ten turbo props described in the agreements will serve United's Washington Dulles and Chicago O'Hare hubs as well as a number of other smaller markets throughout the country. The agreements with Chautauqua and Republic expire in 2014, while the contract with Shuttle America runs through 2005 and includes a renewal option. The companies will begin operating United Express flights later this year.

"United shares our goals of operational excellence and our strong dedication to customer service," said Bryan Bedford, chairman and chief executive officer of Republic Airways Holdings Inc. "We are excited to become a part of United's global network through our contribution to United Express, and we look forward to building a strong, long-term relationship with United."

Chautauqua is celebrating thirty years of service and was recently named 2004 Regional Airline of the Year by Air Transport World. The company has also been awarded the FAA's prestigious Diamond Award for excellence in maintenance and training for each of the past twelve years. Chautauqua and Republic Airlines are wholly owned subsidiaries of Republic Airways Holdings Inc., an airline holding company based in Indianapolis, Indiana. The holding company is owned by investment funds that are managed by Wexford Capital LLC. Wexford also owns Shuttle America.

Race to the bottom--Wexford Style!

Note that our contract only goes to next year--as all Saabs are returned. What was that future we took a pay cut for?

Wexford also owns Shuttle America.

And are clearly quite proud of us!

I guess our prostrations and chants of "We're not worthy" (a la Wayne's World) were taken seriously...

The problem with being a whore is no one wants to take you home at the end of the night.

I thought y'all voted Jets for Jobs in that pay cut too?

Just another one of those Wexford carrots.

We (Shuttle) will never see a RJ unless for some reason it's a CRJ. Any ERJ will almost certainly go to Chautauqua.

From the beginning, Shuttle has been put on the bottom from Wexford for improvements Chautauqua. We sub-lease the SAABs from them - giving them a profit to boot, pay them to do our scheduling (if that's what you want to call it - (NO Quality), are asked to give a pay concession - they get a pay raise, Votes are to be counted - we are brothers, after the count is complete - I'm sorry your (Shuttle) not Republic holdings so we cann't back you and our hands are tied.

It's been said, and probably will be said for some more time now, that once Chautauqua is out from under "Their" lease for the Saabs, Shuttle will fade away with the last of them. I hope this is not the way this one turns out. There are a lot of very good professional men and women working here.

CONGRATS TO CHAUTAUQUA!

AMID ALL THE "BAD BLOOD" AND NAME CALLING, I WISH YOU THE BEST!

YOU WOULDN'T HAVE RECEIVED THE UAL CONTRACT IF IT WASN'T WELL-DESERVED.

Wow, I wasn't aware that Chautauqua also received the FAA's Diamond Award. That's great, congratulations. It looks like it been quite a good year for Chautauqua.

Just an FYI, Shuttle America also recieved the FAA Diamond Award last month.

I think a race to the bottom says it all about the industry........remember it's much more difficult to work your way back once your at the bottom.............sad, very sad........I think Starbucks is hiring.....

Well that's great, congrats to Shuttle America, but for Chautauqua to receive it for each of the past twelve years is really quite commendable.

Not to bust anyone's bubble--but the key criterion for the Diamond award is the mechanic's extracurricular participation in continuing education--like the Wings program.

MX ops (good or bad) do not directly correlate to recieving the award. In Jan 2000 TSA both won the award and had their entire ATR fleet grounded by inspectors on arrival one morning.....

Kudos to the techs, to be sure; but why management gets to ride their coat tails.....

Congrat's CHQ. Welcome to the brothell!!!

The SA MEC should contact the CHQ MEC and work out some sort of deal in regards to a combined seniority list under the Wexford banner. Now is the best time to do this with all the growth. I think it might be in SA best interest.

Even if it includes a staple to the bottom of CHQ seniority it will be better than if SA shuts the door entirely after the 1 year UAL deal, as some have suggested. At the very least have some preferential hiring deal if SA shuts down.

wow

is CHQ turning into another Mesa ? How much are those 170 being flown for, $55hr? I'm sure mainline is very happy about it...

Guess you haven't seen what the mainline guys agreed too for MDA and the 170's.

Years ago I planned what i wanted in life in terms of material stuff house, cars, RV-8/Supercub ect and retirement. I figured that if I made 80 to 100K per year by the time I'm 35 I'd meet my fin. goals amd have the option to retire by 55. I fugured everything over 80 to 100k would be gravey, now I don't even think I'll see 75 by the time I'm 35 in 6 years.

If I had taken a job offer in Mar 2001 I'd be a 717 capt making 100k plus at 29. I think I'm going to jump off the roof now.

When are the first EMB170s scheduled to arrive on the property? Which pilot bases will likely get them first - will they be flown out of ORD first?

Looks like a great airplane!

all that the CEO really said was that we could begin flying United flights as early as june. That doens't specify which aircraft or from where. He did also say primarily Dulles and O'Hare... assumption seems to be that at least one of those will be a base. nothing has been officially said to the employee group.

CHQ

Any idea what the projected hiring will be for this year? Some one posted a while back,CHQ will need about 150/FO for the Delta jets!! How about now with the UA jets. Thanks
