Next round scheduled for late July. Strike will occur 30 days after release by NMB.

Count on the Town Crier, Brother Francis for up to the minute, blatantly biased updates on the CHQ/Republic goat rope.

Oh, sir, but you don't know our "Management Team" (tm).

Now that our strike vote has (SUPPOSEDLY) cost us a UAL codeshare (YEAH RIGHT! We never had one or we haven't lost it, take your pick) to TSA BB will come back and say something similar to this:

"Republic was created for J4J. However, because UAL does not want to do a codeshare with us at this time it is in the best interests of the holding company to place that flying with Republic."

They are going to spin their way out of this no matter what it takes. Mark my words you heard it here first.

Anyone who thinks we had a UAL deal (or had one and don't still have it "under the table")...I've got some Ocean Front Property in Arizona for you.

NMB

Am I right in understanding that Chautauqua can only strike if the NMB board releases them?(plus 30 day cooling off period) I thought I read about a pilot group that had been in talks for years and the NMB wouldn't release them. Mesaba maybe? Does any Chau pilot see this happening?
I am hopeful that Chautauqua holds the line in this slide of quality of living that is happening lately. Is there anything outside pilots can do to help (besides not applying to Republick?)
You have my support.

C'mon now, don't knock the surf down here in AZ! Lake Pleasant has some gnarly tubes on it when panampilot and I are out there doing steep turns over it...

Negotiations

"Republic was created for J4J. However, because UAL does not want to do a codeshare with us at this time it is in the best interests of the holding company to place that flying with Republic."

Question for Skull One:

How would it be in the best interest to place flying with Republic if UAL does not want to do a codeshare??? Please excuse my newbieness but could you explain what you mean.

The high points

Exerpts from Bedford's 7/10 letter to all CHQ employees:

1) Mesa continues to chalk up impressive new deals with UAL and US Airways and now Trans States is getting in with a new agreement with UAL.

2) ...we were within days of signing an MOU with UAL for this very aircraft order when the news of the strike vote was announced. That was enough to kill UAL’s enthusiasm for completing the agreement with Chautauqua.

3) The addition of 25 more RJ’s would have created 200 new pilot positions [100 captain upgrades], 100 new FA’s, 50 new Technician positions and 25 support staff positions, for a total of 375 new jobs.

4) This means a permanent loss of new jobs and upgrades for our people; besides the fact that handing TSA a gift of this nature will only make them a more difficult competitor down the road. It’s a bad outcome for Chautauqua both in the short and long term.

5) The airline also finds itself in an unanticipated staff overage due to the unexpected loss of financing on the next 3 US Airways RJ’s. Unfortunately we will be furloughing about 60 pilots over the next 2 months. Of course 3 aircraft does not equal 60 pilots, but we had been building our staff in anticipation of getting more flying.

6) ...we hope to position the airline to bring many of these furloughed employees back in October or November. However, it is highly unlikely we will be able to accomplish this as long as our labor situation remains unresolved. The loss of aircraft financing and the loss of new business were predictable repercussions of the strike vote; these are clearly “self-inflicted” wounds.

My god this is perhaps some of the funniest outright koolaid I've ever seen and I don't even work for the company. I hope to god you CHQ guys keep the faith. You junior guys that are worried about furlough, please don't give into this BS. We need to hold the line in this falling profession. Flying a jet ain't worth being treated line a hoar. If only some of you other concessionary boys would believe that! ;)

UAL doesn't (and never did) want a codeshare with CHQ. It says nothing about Republic.

Bryan will try to blame Republic's pursuit of more flying on us when that was his plan from the beginning.

Skull-One, well said.
As a new hire on IOE who just received her 3rd furlough letter in less than 2 years, I call Bull$hit on this "we lost the UAL deal because of the strike vote crap". I truly believe either CHQ didn't ever have the deal or there still is one under the table.
BB can write whatever he wants to in his letter, it only makes sense from mngmt standpoint to use whatever you can to wear down the pilot group. But don't give in thinking you're helping out the junior guys and gals by accepting a crappy TA. I would like to be recalled to a better contract. I hope for everyone's sake you don't have to strike, but do what you have to do to get a reasonable contract.

You have my support.

EXACTLY! Do NOT work for Republic in ANY capacity. That's easy for me to say as a pilot with a job, but look at how hated Freedom pilots are..... BB must have had a chat with Ornstien over at Mesa and got this little gig from him. Just over hire and train pilots then furlough them and offer them a job (with high senority) at the new company.

DO NOT BUY INTO IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
if you do you are personally helping kill our industry!!

Lazy8s

heres what we do...

training to the end of sim training including the final checkride, the very last day of training before IOE we do not do, therefore the IOE 120 day deadline dosent take into effect. once we get called back, they do the last day of training then we go on IOE as if nothing happened.

were expecting them to walk in before we start sim and tell us to go home...or...to offer repub. to us or something. we dont know. well find out in a few weeks.

"furlough"

I would then make it a point to inform them that for safety reasons, you will require a full compliment of sim sessions when you return. Good luck.

outofAAjob I am truely sorry for you. Thank you for being wise enough to see the truth and to see BB actions for what they really are.

Please educate those around you they may be more naive. We need all of the jumior guys on board if we are to prevail.

Keep the Faith!

Could someone please elaborate on this. By "the very last day of training" do you mean the emergency procs. and preflight ?? Also how much time can pass between the sim checkride and IOE before training must take place again..

To All Chautauqua Pilots:

I would like to thank each and every one of you that voted on our strike authorization. The resolve and unity in our pilot group has reached the level where it belongs. To think that just six months ago, when we were forming our strike preparation committee, this company said we were not organized enough to pass a strike vote. It is a shame that it takes something negative like this to bring up the morale of our employees. I would think that a contract resolution and a better working relationship between labor and management would serve even better for morale.

I will say this again, we are not respected by this company. A company that respects their employees would let them be more involved in management issues and decision making that directly affects them. The company would also let its labor group police itself instead of being policed, intimidated and threatened with job security. Leadership comes from leading by example and positive reinforcement. When was the last time you saw someone from upper management come down to the flight line, shake hands and tell our folks what a good job they’re doing? I never have. This kind of support comes from our flight crews, unsolicited I might add. This is what makes us who we are as a pilot group. How many of you remember the pamphlet that was sent out awhile ago, “The Unobstructed View,” with the company’s vision statement. A lot of companies put out a vision statement. I believe companies like Jet Blue and Southwest truly believe in their mission statements and give their employees the latitude to achieve the company’s goals. I believe everything that is said in The Unobstructed View; however, I believe it is one-sided. If you did not get a copy of this pamphlet, please request one from the company.

The backing we have from the USAirways MEC continues, and is now verified in print. I would like to say thank you to them for supporting this pilot group. The more we support one another as pilot groups, the less management will take advantage of labor industry wide – be it major to regional, regional to major or regional to regional. We are all in this together.

I would also like to respond to Mr. Bedford’s July 10, 2003 update. Do not let this company convince you that because of this pilot group we lost the UAL deal. Until the EXCO reads a letter from United that our strike vote was the only factor that lost this deal, I would not believe what is being said by this company. If the company continued to over hire pilots for reasons they will not disclose, it is not labor’s fault, it is management’s. How is this EXCO to help prevent putting people on the street if it’s not kept in the loop? Over hiring for potential flying is a risk, management’s risk. If these furloughed pilots were slated to go to UAL flying or to Republic Airlines start-up while trained with Chautauqua’s resources, we will not know. Their decision, and once again, we will carry on and pick up the pieces.

I would like to say that this pilot group is a class act. With our recent problems, we somehow keep it together and do our jobs with remarkable professionalism. Please continue to show up for work like always, and do what is expected of you with the utmost in safety.

In unity, fly safe,

Captain Anthony Felice

EXCO Chairman
