It's a bum deal when anybody gets furloughed.
I think BB took a chance. When he was eyeing F9, UAL was on thinner ice. If UAL had collapsed, he would have looked brilliant! He would have done what Independence and ExpressJet failed to do. He would have been stepping into a vacuum with a certificate, big(er) planes, and two hubs from the get-go.
As it is, his took a chance by buying two money losing carriers, and lost. The stock price reflects this.
I have always liked F9, the people there, and riding on them. It's too bad their future isn't too rosey.
