With your current CFI job, are you responsible for finding most of your students, or does the flight school have a good amount of walkin's where you don't have to worry about recruiting people?

Most flight schools will find the students for you. If you have to find your own students and bring them in the door then you are better off doing free lance.

My situation is a bit different. I have a non-aviation career and only teach part time.

That means a couple of things. I bring my own students in. I can only handle one or two at a time, so I give students to other instructors. And, I will not accept students from the school unless it's to help out (like a sudden weekend BFR or new member checkout)

better off doing free lance
If you can. This is one of those things that tends to vary with geography and organization. There are a lot of places where the school will not allow freelancers to teach in their airplanes.

I'm a spare time freelance cfi. My business comes from referral or acquaintances. Signed an 8710 yesterday. got a call from another new one today... life is good.
