I'm a CFI in San Diego (MYF). Here's the going rate at my school.

Student pays $45/hr ground or flight

Instructor gets:
$25/hr if your the Assistant Chief
$17/hr if you are a CFI/CFII
$15/hr if you are just a CFI

Yup, I'm still there

...Sold my soul to the Devil, and with things the way they are now in the airline biz looks like I'll be there, unfortunately for the foreseeable future :-(

Count your blessings mate-good to still have paid flying employment-much luckier than some that left their CFI jobs and are now at K-Mart after getting fuloughed from their newly acquired regional position. Or others that paid squillions for their training with no hope of even a CFI position (which I'd actually love-I think it's a great end in itself-not just a means).

So count your blessings, and say g'day to Andrew for me.
