No, i was just at an investment bank's aerospace conference and the CEO of cessna reported that they spending 300 to 400 mm on r&d to develop a large cabin concept aircraft. He said he was unable to say more and couldn't promise that the aircraft would be made. So I was just wondering if anyone else knew any more details.

Cool. Hadn't heard a thing. Did they give any preliminary perf and dimension data?

Ahh...found the press release at Cessna...

....no data...just that it'll have a flat floor, walk-in baggage and "..a large refreshment area.."????

that last one makes you go...hmmmmm

...so prly not a longer-range plane...or they would have said: "galley".

Hmmm

F2000 size, $25-$27MM and 3,800-4,000 NM range.

I saw the mock up at the NBAA convention. Trust me, it ain't that large. I would say it is about the same as the Falcon 20/50 cabin. Yes, it did have a galley. However, not close to the size cabin of a Falcon 2000/900, Gulfstream or Challenge.

F2000 size,

Hum, did we look at the same mock up? It really didn't look that big to me.

Interesting. A mid-size cabin that'll go 4k. Hmmmm. Wouldn't want too many folks in there.

I wonder if this will spur the devel. of a new engine, or an off the shelf unit. That kind of range would maybe indicate a pratt engine....

but a small-ish cabin going that far would seem to buck the trend. Cessna doesn't strike me as taking that kind of chance. I mean think about, their entire jet fleet is essentially based on a single airframe, or a combination of two airframes, the X excluded.

It'll be interesting to see what they do. Gulfstream will update the 200 to carry 8 pax 3600 to 4000nm so it can compete with the 2000EX at a better price point...maybe Cessna will get in on the same market.

Maybe they'll finally make a bigger yoke for the control column. It's about time they got rid of the ones they keep stealing off of all the desk-top sims.

It will be new cabin, with the Citation I fuel system, the Citation II lav, the Citation X wing, the Citation Sovereign tail and engines, the Citation III avionics, and the speed of a Citation CJ2.

I just got out of school on a CE-680. It is my first (and hopefully last) Citation. What a POS! Give me a Falcon any day.

They pitched this to our company and asked for our input. In the beginning they wanted to know if potential buyers wanted the 92mach or more range with a more suitable 87, 88ish MMO. It will be like the X but longer and a little wider with 4000k range, but at that price I don't think it's worth it. Might as well buy the G metal and stop pretending for 28K or so.

They have to do something though, the X is starting to look pretty antiquated, so they have to either re-invent it or give it an avionics enema.

cessna handed out brochures at the NBAA show describing their goals. if you were an owner, they requested you answer a group of questions in the brochure and send it back for input. typical passenger stuff really. head space, baggage capacity, etc etc etc

dimensions were floating somewhere in the 74' range both ways. more sweep to the wings and tail (mock up is a t-tail) than the CE-680.

Side note: Cessna really needs to make a replacement for their aging 400 series fleet.

What are you, psychic? Gulfstream has designed an improved wing for the G200. Market forces will determine if it is built.

W2B,

Cessna will never go back into the piston twin, or twin turbo prop market. Those are the customers that hopefully will move into the Mustang or CJ series aircraft.
