I spent 2 summers doing arial photography out of a small airport in south central illinois. We shot entire states by flying lines of longititude every 2 nm across each state. 2 summers ago we shot Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky, Illinois, and Missouri. He has/had 4 PA-180's and 2 twin camanchees. Insurance required you have 100 hrs in a camanchee to fly one of the twins but the only requirement to fly the singles was a commercial certificate. The flying is only done during the summer and takes about 3 months depending on the amount of acres needed to be shot. I averaged about 300 hrs each summer. It was a great experience and very easy since your only job was to fly the aircraft, the photographer in the back took care of the camera. I was paid $425 every 2 weeks so your not gonna get rich. Yuck! This sure sounds familiar. I remember being a 600tt/50ME guy in 1990 . . . . Very tough.

Before driving a limo, I would look for a line service job, especially one at a busy jet FBO.

If it makes it any easier, I worked as an ambulance EMT for a few years,a nd also worked the ramp for Fedex, and friends of mine worked line service, drove limos, etc.

The good news is that we all made it, and you will too . . . just hang in there, and do what you need to do to get by, but my recommendation would be work line service before any other non-flying job.

Good luck

YIKES!!! That gave me shivers... I remember my old resume back in Sept. 1990...

287.4 hours TT (had to mention the .4, might give me an edge!) And that was from a typewriter... one typo and you threw it away and started again! Boy what I could have done with a computer and wordprocessor...

oh well.. that was a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away!

Hey Chicaga... Get me a date with your "Avatar Friend" and I'll let you fly my 900EX!

Hey Chicaga,

Being a fellow Chicago boy, take a line service job, front desk, bag thrower, anything at the airport. When I got out of college in '95, I too had no prospects so I took a line service job. One of my fellow collegues in the gas pumping world ended up getting me my first jet job 4 years later. Stay in aviation! Check the regionals at ORD or MDW, great way to make contacts for your future, crap work, but it may pay off down the road. Dude if your a city boy, then you know it is all about who you know, not what you know. Coming from a man who is dumber than rocks, but still flying!

Good Luck!

Flychicaga,

I think there's a couple of classes coming back at C8. It might be worth getting in touch with your old boss, SH. He might be able to work some magic for you.

I'm still at the old e-mail address. Look me up!

Try Burgett Aviation in Danville (DNV) or Central Illinois Air in Mattoon (MTO).

Just a thought....A new FBO is scheduled to begin operating at Springfield's Capital Airport next week. They are taking over the facilities that house Capital Aviation until they went the bankruptcy route. Not sure what type of operations they plan, but might be worth a shot.

It's funny how you can get hundreds of people to read a message that is titled "Central Illinois".
