ok yes my fault, I guess I was thinking CAT III.

I hear also that Europe may be the problem.....such as all the guys "certified" for CAT II shooting the approach and you not even allowed to go look....could be a pain in the arse...especially in the likes of Luton and Geneva...

If anyone reasearches and comes up with the best (re: easiest) way to get approved pass along the info!! - but I guess that was the original question!!!

...anything to get out of school ASAP and NOT fly with the Feds.....

Man, how did any of us land in less than 1800RVR before all this fancy equipment and training programs??......:)

We're also looking at it from the standpoint of Europe, and the odd ball time we might use it in the U.S.

Staying current shouldn't be a problem. And, like I said before, once you've completed the initial qualification, CAT II approaches will be incorporated into your traditional recurrent without adding any additional time.

We had our monthly department meeting yesterday and I asked about CAT II, we are still pursuing it... More to come after the first of the year...

2000Flyer, you are right... after the initial certification (which I think is a couple hours of ground school and one sim session) the recurrect will just be rolled into your regular recurrent with no extra time required.
 
It's not worth it. Ispent 5 years operating a Cat II G4. In 5 years I used it once. It's not worth the cost of the additional training and maintenance.

Where the costs really add up is if your flight department requires it's pilots to fly two different types of aircraft. The combination of the Cat II training, along with the reuired recurrents, HUD training(2 different types if you operate G's and F's), medair, intl ops, vacations, yada yada....

I would go months without every see the same pilot on a 4 plane crew and when I asked the answer is always training. Cat II does not offer you enough to justify the costs.

We are not an airline. When you can't get into LGA, you can go to TEB, HPN, JFK yada yada. They only make money if they get you correct airport. Once we explained the costs to the CEO, he did not care, if once in a blue moon he had to go to Stanstead or Luton or Farnboro because LHR was 0/0.
