Why on earth would you stay in Cancun when Playa del Carmen is just 30 to 45 minutes south, by bus.

Playa del Carmen ain't no Cancun. . .

Having visited Mexico many times I would put Cancun right up there with the best places I have been to in Mexico. Check out Fat Tuesday's and take the "booze cruise", all you can drink and eat and the food on the island they take you to is superb with a nice variety. Also take a trip and a tour of the ancient ruins if you are a history guru.
