Picking cotton instead of flying.
Or sitting right seat in an regional jet.

I'll take my lumps in the left seat of a single engine turbo prop.

Living by chance, loving by choice and killing by profession. (we kill a lot of bugs on the windscreen).

Hi UA! Yes, you can do whatever you want in life! There are so many options today for young adults. Set goals ON PAPER, and go from there.

Be in touch with as many people who will support you and your efforts, and stay away from Negative people. Read as many books as you can on People ( real life stories) of those who started at the bottom and made it to the top.

There are so many options in aviation, Sales. Selling and learning about an aircraft can lead to high income commissions.

Flight lessons, can be rewarding as pleasure but can lead to more serious things in life.

Working for a charter company as a broker? Bluestar Jets? This job may pay off if sellling for customers. I hate to say this but do not believe that you are "poor", Money comes from hard work, and money is nothing but a tool.

Don't feel bad that you live at home, this may be a secure place for you and living with supportive parents helps. We all work Ua, 40 hours a week is normal, I started my 40 hour week the day I graduated from High School, and have been working ever since 24 years later.

Yes, you can do it! There are so many options, the key is to get focused and write down, your goals. Example, I want to fly 10 hours this month.

Or the military is a good option too, I just met a Jarhead for the first time in my life at my part time job!

Either way, do not let anyone steer you from doing what you want, money doesn't always drive people, the passion does!

Pay as you go..... Don't attend a large flight academy. Fly at your local FBO, the prices tend to be lower and you will have more opportunity to network with pilots who own planes. Hanging out at FBO's networking with pilots works great, I have worked many great deals with pilots just talking to them about aviation.

If you work at the FBO where you fly, you usually will get a discount (even if it's just pilot supplies).
DO NOT PUT YOURSELF IN DEBT LEARNING TO FLY. It's a really long road to making a reasonable amount of money in flying. If you have no loans to pay back when you are flying as a CFI, it will make flying much more fun.

Goodluck

A poor person can become one yes. The other question and the more important one is: How bad do you want to be poor after you go through all the bs to become a pilot? Trust me, its not worth it.

yes, it's possible

Getting your ratings on the cheap is doable, it'll just take a little(?) more time. I got my PPL while enlisted in the army in 1985 as an overpaid E-3 making about 550/month. I flew jumpers for a few years and a couple guys took my resume to their companies. Now I am a skipper of the skies in a DC-9.
