Can a furloughed pilot jumpseat?

Can a furloughed pilot jumpseat? For example, can a pilot furloughed from AA jumpseat (in the cabin of course) of a Delta flight?


Are there any FAA reg’s about this?

Assume the jumpseater has a valid I.D., pilot license and medical.

Nope, not even on their own carrier. But most, if not all furloughed pilots can non-rev on their respective carrier.

Until I hear otherwise from World HQ, if I see an ID/certificate and medical, you are welcome to the best available seat in the cabin on any of my flights.

Don't most airlines take a furloughee's company ID? I'm pretty certain that my old regional did that to furloughees. And once it has expired, wouldn't a furloughee be unable to get an airport ID renewed?

I think some of these questions are a little too security-sensitive for an open forum.

Let's just say that I would go to the limit to accomodate any fellow pilot, not look for reasons to deny him/her a ride, and I like to think that the rest of the pilot community would do the same.

With a secret clearance from Uncle Sam and furloughed from a major, I tried to sit in the flight deck on my father's final flight in 2002. No dice! He tried every flight manager/CP with no help. I doubt you can get away with it now. Good luck!

Thanks to the people who replied to the question. Yes that all makes sense. I’m not trying to get away with anything I was just curious.

What about people on military leave or another type of leave of absence from their company?

What about ID 90 travel while on leave or furloughed?

Bottom line, you have to have an ID to jumpseat no matter what the circumstance. If you are #1 on the senority list at your airline, but you show up to my cockpit without an ID, you do not get on. No ID, no JS. It is that simple.
