So, you guessed it, I have flown this month on reserve, but still not too much.

Anyways, I show up on Sunday to deadhead to AMA to pick up a freshly painted 757 and ferry it back. I wore comfy clothes, Banana Republic pants and a nice Hollister shirt, I kinda dressed like an off-duty gay NTA flight attendant.

The captain was in full uniform and when I met him at the B86 gate the first thing he said is "so where is your uniform man?". I said "uh, oh, I lost it at home, ha"

He says very seriously that "you gotta have your uniform on all flights..." I said, "ok, I can go home, no problem". He says "I don't think anyone will notice anyways"

NO kidding, ya think!! He said that a memo came out that said we have to wear it on ferry flights too. I told him that is the reason I did not know, I don't read the memos.

I can't believe that!! If I was a captain I would never wear the uniform for ferry ops. I can't believe how many pilots wear their uniform during the commute and jumpseating to work...WHY?? And guess what, I am still not going to wear it on my next ferry.

I think we at CAL should prioritize things. These memos are stupid, making a profit is smart. We should focus on profit and safe operation, not stupid things like uniforms on ferry flights and constant rate descents into London...

Feedback por favor.....

BTW, does anyone know where the corner of 1st and Amistad is?

There's your problem right there. Ferry flights are properly conducted wearing jeans, flip-flops, and a Pink Floyd concert T-shirt.

...nice Hollister shirt...

Isn't that sort of an oxymoron?

Anyway...if you commute and don't wear your uniform you have to have your liquids and gels inspected, wait in line, need a jumpseat pass most likely with SSSS's on it...must I go on?

I commuted for 2 years out of ATL, to EWR. 12/05 to 9/07.

No problems with security. Although, I did not need to carry a lot of liquids. How much do you need for a trip anyways?

Never had a problem with jumpseat pass either.... when I non-rev now I still wear normal clothes, no problems.

Deadheaded to CUN last Friday, normal clothes, no problems with liquids in my bag.....

The problem is the treatment varies by airport. It is just easier to wear your uniform when commuting.

I will answer your first post from a sample of your post from the past.
"I knew that and came, and I would think that most of you (folks that complain) knew that and still applied."
"Yep, CAL is still terrible, just terrible. Actually I wish that anyone who hates CAL would quit if you are senior to Dec 2005!!!!!"
If your suppose to wear your uniform on ferry flights just wear it and stop complaining. Of all the things to complain about you complain about the least significant one. And yes I agree with you, CAL is a terrible place and if you can't wear your uniform on ferry flights you should just quit.

I don't think CAL is terrible. I just think that is a crazy policy.

But, what did I do about it? Something, I did what I wanted, that is my point!!

I am not going to quit anytime soon, I want to qualify for lifetime flight benefits before I leave. How many years do we have to give in order to do that?

Thanks,

Sebd, Sean

I'll give you a little feedback. It does seem silly to wear a uniform on ferry flights but if they want you to, do it. If you're not going to do what they ask of you and pay you for, why should they pay you?
If you really feel that strongly about it, lead a movement to change the rule.

yeah yeah...that is what my wife says too.

If they ask me to fly to Mehico I am not going now!!!!!

Ouch, wife comparisons. . .

I'm really on your side, i've done two ferry flights here. First one in uniform because I didn't know any better, and the second in business casual. If there should be a third and after a lengthy stay on reserve I think sandals, blue jeans, and a dark side of the moon t-shirt will be the uniform of the day.

Absolutely..... I just can't believe that the captain would wear it.

I figure it this way. Try and leave on time and don't crash the plane...everything else is frosting on the cake.

I am so tired of the stupid memos on stupid ccs about stuff that does not matter..... They should focus on making a profit and stop wasting memo time!! they should be brainstorming new ideas instead of telling us to take off with the isolation valve closed... No kidding!!!!

Don't be a victim

I think it's a good idea to read the memos; otherwise you're at the mercy of every clown who misreads or even makes up memos, especially if they are aware that you don't read them. And once in a while there might be some really important and useful information buried in one.

yeah, but I don't care.. As long as I show up, not drunk or high, and try to leave on time....and not crash the plane.....honestly, what else is there?

I told him that is the reason I did not know, I don't read the memos.

Nothing like some self-incrimination on a public message board.

I don't know what your rules are, but my only consideration is scheduling would try to hose you by adding a revenue leg of some sort after the ferry. It's happened to me, and I was wearing shorts and an old sweatshirt. I did the revenue leg anyway....

Scheduling added a 2 day trip after my training event. Got the notice just when I was about to DH to my base... Normally who would wear uniform to a training event, right? But at my old company, we were req'd to wear uniform on DH, so technically they were correct. Luckily I left my Van Halen t-shirt at home... At least i couldn't do any preflight for the whole trip:)

The problem with HMV flights and ferry flights is that if you complete them and there are no further actions required, they normally will will position the jet.
I have done that twice where we did not go to the hub, but to another city and pick up revenue.
I say at least bring it.
