How many recomendations does CAL like to see on their online systems? I have one internal rec from my cousin who is a 19th year Captian and then three others from outside. Site manager/Captian from outside and two other Captians from where I work now.

Are they ever gonna call????

There are junior FO at Express that are getting hired over senior Captains. It seems at this point it is who you know, than how much time you have. Guys plus low time girls are getting hired b/c of there Dads retired at CAL, ect., cases like that.

It is kinda frusterating to fly with an FO who has only been at ASA for a year that starts class in the next few weeks at CAL. That was bothersome until I got the call from CAL. It is all about who you know. I had to pull strings up in Washington D.C.

One of the very first things you will want to do to brush up for that big airline job is learn how to spell Captain.

Oh, and maybe furloughed and bankruptcy.

Give the Fracs a try. The rich and famous will always need to fly and more are figuring this out every day. I am a year 5 CA, will fly the line 108 days this year with NO commuting, and the W2 will be $130k. There will be another $15k on top of that in tax-free per-diem and "extras". We don't use our per-diem, food is provided. 50% match 401k. All insurance paid.

Well you all are very optimistic. I take it there are some with a little bitter feelings on here today. I realize I am not some regional pilot wonder with 2500 PIC JET!!! I guess I will nerver make it.

Ouch, rough thread! Don't give up flyer7m...I'm trying to get on with CAL myself. All my jet time is pointy nose military iron, hopefully I'll get the call in the not too distant future.

One rec with sponsor's trip to his/hers supervisor is a million times better than 20 recs without such "push".
It really helps a lot if people who recommend talk to the management about you.

Especially if they have good reputation and know you well.

That is the most rediculous thing I have ever heard of. It must be from someone who has like all of these qualificatoins and can't get an interview. Nice. You are an idiot.

At CAL, pilots hire pilots. Believe it or not there are only 2900 qualified apps on file. Yes you need an internal rec, but people have been hired off the street.

Good luck and don't be bitter. It wont help. Oh, no I am not one who has a dad that works at CAL. Not even close.

hmm 130k, summer off, 3 21 day vacations a year, 50 percent match, AND no COMMUTING. Yeah that's fine with me. :)

Hey guys

I am thinkin of getting a 73 type rating. Do you think it will help for CAL? I am hoping to make it there sometime. No LOR yet as I dont know anyone. But I fugure that the interview is the make or break cause you can still be a POS with a LOR right?

Make sure you tell them that you actually want to work for CAL and why Southwest didn't hire you. Nothing says "I want to work for Southwest" like buying a type. But seriously, I don't think it would hurt to have one.

backyard burger is that the chain? Looks good never tried it though.

just having fun..i like the frac flying...great job...lots of buds at netjets...nice contract over there...

Contracts are step by step but you guys know how that goes. :)

Allways something to talk about. :)

No, I don't think the type will make or break you. The key, as posted earlier, is get a sponsor that is well known to go in and sell you to management. That gets your resume from the tall pile to the short pile. Sure, you can get pulled from the tall pile based on your qualifications, but probably will get a quicker call from the short pile if someone will walk it in and pump you up to the right person in the hiring department. However, from what I've heard, not many will be getting calls until early fall (August/September). Hiring down to 8/month for the summer....

Dunno know if this helps...

I start in a couple of weeks. I had 3 recs from 1 fo and 2 captains at CO. I didn't hear anything until the two captains actually walked into CP office and went out on a limb for me.

Good Luck.

Hey Bearcat,

I'm not an idiot and I'm not bitter. I'm just a junior Capt. and I just telling it like it is. We know who goes over from Express. I'm not saying these folks aren't qualified, they are just so Junior to alot of guys and girls. Just telling it like it is. Whats it to you. You seem to be the guy thats getting all worked up over nothing. You already over there, so just shut up and be happy. I don't care if your Dad worked there or not or who you know. I was just stating the facts and ******************** thats going on

1st lesson in life - life ain't fair

Griswold i know of plenty that have no special ties to CAL who are working there. they like Express guys, but there are a lot to sort through. if you work to make yourself stand out then you may see some positive results.

working for Express does not give you a job at CAL. i speak from experience. if you genuinely would like to work there then show the company that is your goal...someone will notice. they are highly trained to pick out the good apples and have a vested interest in doing so.

there will always be people with an advantage in life and their career path. i'd suggest that you create your own advantage and work towards your goal...if you want to work for Continental.

i recommend it. it's a cool place with cool people.

I can't get a call with recs, 5000tt and 2500 jet PIC, baby.

As I recall, a 24yer old Mesa guy got hired with very low time there. Also know several there with very limited pic time.

It's a crap shoot. Put your stuff in and wait your turn.

For what's it worth.

I flew with a Captain who does interviews, he interviewed me in August. He was told that pilots can only recommend buds to there CP's now. It used to be that you could go to a fleet manager but not anymore, according to him.

As far as how many rec. I recommended someone after being here less than a week and he is now done with training. I think the key is that if you find someone to recommend you he must be willing to stick his head into the CP's office occasionally and see how you are progressing. 90% of the non-Express guys in my class had internal recs.

Also, having someone who has flown with you, or at least know you very well, to recommend you is a big plus.

Good Luck.

Who told you that I'm not working towards my goals. I know Express dosen't get you a job at CAL. I was just giving facts of some of the stuff that is going on. Look at what blzr is saying. I'm just posting the same stuff. I know life is not fair. I think you CAL guys just love to find a reason to give an Express guy a hard time. I'm not on of these guys that think the regionals is where it is at. I know what it takes to get a job. Again, just saying whats been happening.
