How big is CAL's seniority list?

Are CAL bid periods 4 weeks (28days) or calender month?

1 What is reserve like at CAL?

2 Min days off for a reserve pilot?

3 Reserves fly a bunch, or hardley ever?

4 How long on reserve typically?

1. All short call right now. Two hours to get the airport--period. Not good for a commuter.

2. 12 days per month

3. a bunch

4. less than 3 months to three years, depending on when you get hired. It was three months a few years ago, then a line, but after 9/11 it lasted three years.

Thanks for the reply.

Do any of you know if the old gouge/ sim profiles are going to be similar to this round of hiring?

737 COMBINATION COCKPIT COMPANION
Combination book for all models of 737 from -300 up to 900. (300-400-500-600-700-800-900 Systems) Burgandy colored cover.

Bill Bulfer is a CAL pilot who has been publishing a Jep size "study guide" for nearly 10 years. Most guys have one in training, many carry it in the plane. There are four versions and I believe this is the one you'd want since CAL flies 3/5/7/8/9 models. It is basically the CAL systems manual in bullet format. In the most straightforward terms it tells you what happens for every position of every switch in cockpit.

All of these CO threads are starting to pique my interest.

What's first year pay?

Thanks,
enigma

Small narrowbody (73-5 73-7 73-3)

year 1 $29.97/hr -- 76 hour guarantee (reserve)

year 2 $54.14/hr

year 3 $64.45/hr

Large Narrowbody (757's) (738's) (739's)

year 1 $29.97/hr

year 2 $62.13/hr

year 3 $73.14/hr

Lineholders can now fly up to FAR's per month. Usually lines are built to the high 70's to low 80's (hour) per month. I left out the widebody since you probably can't hold it within 3 years.

To expand a little more on Boeingman's post.......

Reserves on the 737 and 757/767 get a "blended" pay rate based on the percentage of aircraft in the sub base that fall into each catagory.
Right now it is 50-50 Large Narrow Body to Narrow body on the 737 and 60-40 Large Narrow Body to Wide Body on the 75/76.

For example second year "blended" rate on the 737 is $58.14 and 75/76 is $65.94

Line holders on the "blended" equipment also get the blended rate for all soft time. (training, sick time, deadhead...etc)

Can any CAL guys or gals give me some insight on the typical reserve sked days on/off, IE 4 on 3 off ect. Or how it's typically broken down. Also what, if any is initial training pay....Thx

I tried to cut and paste a domestic reserve line, but couldn't get it to copy.

They build them variable with groups of days off. Some will have a block of 5 days off with blocks of 2 and 3 days off togethor spread through the rest of the month. Some have 2 blocks of 4 days with 2 day groups spread for the reminder. Some have one 4 day block, one 3 day block and the balance of 2 day spread. In this mix are what is known as immovable days which they can't touch.

Minimum 12 days off. There is a new reserve system with the contract, but I have not read it. They are going to a long call and short call system. The long call I think will be 9 hours but can be changed with the needs of the company yad yada yada. As it is now, you have 2 hours to report 1 to make departure from initial call.

GUM is a different animal. I do not know what they are currently doing out there. I heard they are still building 12 day blocks off on lines.

CAL in NOT commuter friendly. Do not count on the ability to commute in on your first day of reserve to sit reserve. Under the new contract, a lineholder can still take a trip from a reserve up to 10 hours before push.

I can't get the contract to pull up so I can not give you an accuarate answer on training pay. I am late for an appointment and have to fly today. If I have time later, I'll research it. Off the top of my head I believe you are paid for training and given a hotel room.

Hope this helps.

Another "Rebel without a clue" gracing the pages of our fair forum. Just the kind of guy who lets one and all know, he's a motorcycle pilot at a Moped airline.

LOL, Awesome!
