Now that CO is accepting apps. again, would some of you care to shead some light on schedules, vacation, living on GUM etc...

Thanks!

does it really matter...its a major carrier hiring again....does the col really matter..i think people worried about that and other things likes schedules pay and vacations should not even apply....

Really?

Sure. Why be concerned with little things like compensation, benefits, health-insurance, retirement, duty-rigs, trip-rigs, reserve rules?

I mean its a major airline. Obviously we should all simply fall all over ourselves for the opportunity to apply. Heck, we could even volunteer to pay THEM for the first year! We could set up little cots in the crew room and take turns being ready-reserve! 30 seconds from the call to the cockpit!

Jets R' Neat!

gimme a break. Do yourself a favor. RESEARCH before you take a job. You may find out that everything's not quite what it was cracked up to be. This is the post 09/11 world and the majors today are NOT what they were in 1999.

Very good point!!
Next thing you know, we are going to see all this regional captains that used to bash the guys applying for FO position applying to all the majors whitout caring about pay or QOL. After all, it's a major isn't it?
I have an idea. Since CAL just took paycuts, why don't you guys stay away from there just to stand up for the pilot group, that way they will realize that they need to pay the pilots more...........
Who are the tools now?

Dude, that sounds pretty cool... gotta go find my checkbook. Who do I make it out to, and how much should I pay? I mean, since I have a job at big, wonderful major, I better write a big check.

Now I'm off to the sporting goods store to buy a cot (or air mattress) for my ready reserve duty in the crew room... oh boy, this is gonna be fun, I can't wait! Crew room ready reserve at a major, can you even believe it??

Here is the latest snapshot of the CA and FO senority for the next bid. This is of course an assumption.

This wont give you QOL but will tell you where the junior people are based. Reserve is moving fast since retirements are onky increasing through the end of the decade.

I hope this was a poor attempt at sarcasm.

Apparantly Captboy has more than enough experience to judge others for wanting to know more about a prospective employer before signing his career away. I bet he'd be one of those guys the ceo of my company would love to have on the property, flying 40yo 737-200's at $28 an hour. I mean, it's a jet, right?? Though, I don't see a type rating or any Line experience. He's got "enough" though so maybe we should give him a break.

Captboy, maybe you'd like to come fly rj's at my company, where you can work 15 hour duty days from 1800-0900, get payed for 6 hours, and sleep on the airplane because the comany is too cheap to buy you a hotel room. Hell, it's legal. It must be safe. Right?!?! If you're in the corporate world I bet the guys who have to sit in the cockpt with you absolutely love being that close to you for hours on end.

By the way, its "QOL" as in "Quality of Life". Not "COL"-not sure what you're refering to there.

This site is for sharing information and helping each other out. Not bashing other people who are trying to LEARN about the various companies out there that will have a major impact on the rest of our lives. If you can't do that you should probably stay there on your ce500. Maybe YOU can do it all on your own. But I've seen plenty of loners wash out of my company's training process and I can tell you it's better to have friends around to help each other out than to sit on the bench wishing you were playing.

Another "Rebel without a clue" gracing the pages of our fair forum. Just the kind of guy who lets one and all know, he's a motorcycle pilot at a Moped airline.

GUM is lots of fun. Great people and certainly different than the mainland. Excellent Chief Pilot, great flying with the exception of some of the red eye stuff. It is expensive to live, but easy to get into a crash pad and live on the beach.

Most of the flying is up to Japan and back on the same day. Tons of stuff to do especially if you love the sun and water. Bali, Manila and Hong Kong easy access as well as fantastic deals on offline nonrev travel.

All pilots get $1100 per month taxable cost of living and a paid move to the island if you want to move yourself of family out.... schools are very expensive and public education something to carefully research.

I was there from 96 until last year and would love to go back next year and finish my career there....11/2007!

Regards!

u know most people are never satisfied with their job....u could have 17 days off and get 130,000 a yr...and the guy would want 18 days and 131,000...people r just never satisfied.....to most it will never be enough....its the reality of this industry....im just one that is sort of grateful for what i have and the possibilitys of better things....im not greedy like most.....

So does anyone have the answer about reserve show times and QOL????

The new contract has "long call" and "short call" reserves. Long call is 9hrs to show with a 72hr pay guarantee and short call is 2 hrs with a 76 hr guarantee. Min 25% most senior reserves must be awarded Long call if they request it. Long call reserves can be "rolled" to short call by scheduling with 9hrs notice, this can be done twice per month for "free", more than that gets 1 hr added to pay guarantee for each time. There will also be a window each day for reserves to pick up trips for the next day. Can't pick up trips that will take you past the pay guarantee though. Long call reserves will be 24hr on call and short call reserves will have 15hr on call windows.

As far a QOL on reserve, the new reserve rules will not be implemented until July 1 so who knows what the new system will do to reserve QOL until it is actually implemented and greivances filed for abuses. Current reserve QOL will not be relevant as the current system is completely different.

According to the airlinepilotcentral.com website, you get 2.05 international perdeim. Can you claim this in Guam?

According to my calculations, a newhire in Guam on short reserve will make $40,560 the first year with the $1100/mo override that was mentioned.

The pay looks about right. Per Diem is only paid while on trips. Cost of living in GUM is pretty high, but easy to find a quality crashpad for $500-600 share three or fours ways. Reservists are able to get rooms on base at Anderson or the Navy base space A. As far as the long /short show, the short is like our pesent one and pays 76 hours guarantee, Long is at 72 hours.

Regards and good luck!
