Below is the answer from a senior flight operations manager to my question of CAL's 06 hiring projections.

"We'll be hiring 48 in Feb, 60 in Mar, and 60 in April. Beyond that till the end of summer we will be hiring at a reduced rate. Hiring will again increase at the end of summer through next spring. The exact rates of hiring beyond April this year are not yet known."

consistent with what i've been hearing. good numbers for everyone especially the newbies and wannabe newbies.

any idea when the first 787 comes on board and what routes it might have? domestic/int'l or a blend like the 757?

First 787 comes in 2009. Should be intl only and will pay W/B rates, same as the 777.

CAL EWR B737,

Can you (or anyone else who may know) confirm or deny that class 06-05 was told by someone from the "planning dept" that marketing increased block hours on the 737 for the summer, and flight ops will not reduce hiring through the summer as a result?

Sorry, it's one of those "I know a guy who has a friend in class who sits next to the guy who knows...." style rumors this time.

Thanks in advance for the confirmation or the denial.

Sincerely,

B. Franklin

With this bids vaccancies and the vaccancies not filled from the last system bid, expect about 500 pilots hired for all of 2006. This is of course, subject to change at any given moment, place, or space time coordinates.

Not sure about the exact number but I have heard rumors similar to what has been posted already in response to your question.

What I will say is my original post on this thread is extremely accurate as of last Friday. The person who is quoted has direct oversight over pilot recruitment. However the standard caveat applies. This was accurate on last Friday, in this business things have been known to change drastically in as little as a few days.

Looks like they are increasing class size. I know a couple people that have been moved up between a week and a month for March/April class dates. Good news......
