I read on pilot pay dot come that the company and "the union" were in negotiations for additional crew bases in So. CA, the norhteast and Florida? would anyone have any facts on this.

By the way, thnks for the replies on my last CAL request.

Yes its true.

CALALPA and the company are talking about it. The union just surveyed the pilot group. No more official word than that.

The additional bases being considered are Boston, So.Florida, So.California and Honolulu.

Maybe Sea, Anc, and Lax. Ofcourse this would be after they buy Alaska.

Thats different.

The company wants to know where the employees would be happy having a domicile?

I just can't imagine they care about that. Maybe it's just one of those rhetorical type questions. We can dream...

Its more about where they can save money on hotels.

The survey was preceeded by an analysis of where the best additional domiciles would be, based on company cost savings.

When the survey came out, the locations we would like were not the focus but whether or not anyone wanted the locations that were allready picked.

They are researching the possibilities of satellite bases. We have been looking at satellite bases for my entire 18 1/2 year career at CAL with no avail. If and when (huge IF) if would probably be only for B737 with the exception of HNL which would be for the 756.

However with our incompetent union leaders doing everything to cover their collective rear ends due to ALPA full time flight pay loss abuse. Our MEC has taken rumor has it over one million in trip loss pay in violation of ALPA policy. The ALPA Executive Council is meeting this week to deal with these abusers. So I wouldn't count much on Satellite bases anytime in the near future.

Yeah, we can sit here and dream its about making the employees happy but we all should know by now that its the bottom line. Oh well, its the thought that counts right?

The union, not the company...

Does anyone have any updated news about the discussions? I know many at CAL are not holding their breath for any new bases, but I was curious if the union has stated when talks will resume or when there would be an answer, etc.

thanks for the info.

No new info and I wouldn't expect any in the near or mid term future. Our MEC is currently ducking as the "Fagone Report" (major investigation from ALPA national) is sending shock waves throughout our pilot group. This report shows egregious over payment and possible criminal activity within our MEC. Yesterday the IAH base voted overwhelmingly to start a recall of the IAH base reps.

We have been talking about satellite bases for the 18 1/2 years I've been at CAL. Now with our union in shambles and the possible recall of our MEC officers and Negotiating committee, nothing is happening in our union except many trying to cover there rear ends Hope this info helps..

No new bases period. Maybe satellites and that's a big IF. There really isn't a lot of talk. The union just wanted to survey the membership to see if there is any significant interest. If I were a betting man and I am I'd say a 25% chance at best. Company's not even talking about it just our union. If we did have some it would probably be on the 737 in cities like BOS, DEN, LAX or numerous Florida cities. Possibly a HNL B756. LA, DEN and HNL would go very senior My guess is Florida would go somewhat senior.

I see, I thought the talkes were mutual, but it seems like the union went to the company and that is about it. Now they have some serious legal issues to deal with and the pilots will not hear anything for quite some time. Bummer!

thanks for the info though.

Well, when I was interviewed on the phone by the ALPA Executive Vice President who conducted the investigation I was told in no uncertain terms that they have broken the law and could be prosecuted by the Department of Labor. Not sure if it's a felony but our slimly scab MEC is good at getting away with murder.

There is no such thing as a federal misdemeanor.

What are you CAL guys hearing about a future merger?

Sorry to hear about your ALPA reps pigging out on the flight pay loss! That is friggin not right, but I am sure it happens elsewhere.

Every time we meet a United crew somwhere we're told that Uni-Cal is the inevitable future. Apparently that rumor is all the rage at United.

Everybody is waiting for someone to make a move. If DAL & NWA start talking we'll all be scrambling for dance partners and Uni (no Ted :D ) will be looking awfully pretty to us.

A lot of talk is going around UAL-CAL or CAL-UAL, probably work out better than the fun of the 2000 talk about USAir, I think UAL And CAL would fit nicely. I am sure if it ever gets past the rumor stage, we will have some heated discussions :}

That about sums it up right there. The good, the bad and the ugly.

It would be a great combination but, dam I don't wanna even think about what kind of a mess the list merger would be. That's why the senior CAL guys don't even want to think about it. Our seniority list is such a convoluted mess from the strike and past 4 (?) mergers.......

We got our "groups" too!

I never called it a federal misdemeanor. What they did is against the law as interpreted by the Department of Labor. Call it what you want but it is against the law. Unfortunately it looks as though their only penalty will only to pay back what they unlawfully took and hopefully lose their union positions.

And I never said you said... My point was that when you break a federal law that it is by definition a felony. Thus those who do it are felons. If a federal agency is involved, they are obviously not looking at state laws. In any event strong union leadership is what we all need right now.
