There are winglets being installed on some of the -300's too. The catch is that CAL isn't paying for them. They are only being installed on leased airplanes and the lessor is paying for the install.

Well, that makes a lot more sense.

Okay, back to letting the thread die...
 
the russian company already got financing. those a/c are gone. nice try.

Not so sure. There is talk of those aircraft not leaving until the end of 09 because of the financing problem. This goes hand and hand with spring recall rumors and possible hiring before summer of 09.
 
If you read though the news you will find that the 20 aircraft were going to 3 different buyers. They all were having problems, now I guess at least one of them does not have a problem. The fleet mix for the 737's at CAL has a * by the number that stands for "subject to change." So who the heck knows.......
