I have heard reserve in EWR is around 4 months. What is the average time to hold IAH? Any other info on how things are going for the new hires would be appreciated.

Minimal Reserve time

There should be new hire vacancies in both IAH and EWR for the 737. It is anyone's guess what class they decide to offer them in. If you are starting class in the next month or so, you wont be on reserve very long at all in either base....possibly less than 2 months of reserve. 16 new hires a week for foreseeable future. 12 737 (IAH & EWR) and 4 757 EWR per week starting today.
 
If you are on the senior end of your class (meaning the older end of your class) you can get IAH right out of class if there are openings. Most classes will have a handfull of 737 IAH positions.
 
How long for the 757 in IAH? I have heard they mostly do the same runs to LAS LAX MCO is that pretty much true besides Intl?
 
IAH 756 went to about 8 months seniority on the last award. Mostly domestic stuff (mco, tpa, fll, las, sfo, lax, sea, anc, aus, sat, ewr) with some south america, mexico, and pacific flying (hnl, gum, nrt). The only European destination out of IAH on the 756 is AMS. Not quite as good as the EWR stuff, but if you don't want to work much on reserve and you live in base, life is good on the 756 IAH.
 
If you want to be based in IAH, you might as well go for the 737 rather than the 756. Most likely the 737 will get a xfer down to IAH quicker, but even if you don't, when you finally do get to IAH, your QOL will be much better. You will, in all honestly, be able to hold a line with 14-16 days off with LNB 737 flying before you would even be off RSV on the 756.
 
I started this past April. Sat 737 reserve in EWR for two weeks until I held a line. I will be in Houston in November, so 5 months of flying out of EWR after training. I heard today that we are now training 20/week. I'm sure your odds are good of getting an IAH spot right out of training for the next few months, then I think it will all go to EWR like it did this past spring.
Holding a line in IAH is longer, more like 2-6 months.
 
I started at CAL in Jan. 07 (IAH 737 the whole time)and was on reserve until holding a line for August- but with the reduced flying schedule for the fall I am back on reserve for September

If you live in or around Houston. Reserve on the 75 is better than most lines on the 75 or 73. 76 hours of blended mid/widebody rate is about the same as 82 hours of 757/737-800 flying and you will work waaaay less.
 
I have heard different things.

I have heard the flying is better on the 75 and the 73.

I have heard trips are more productive on the 73 but you will work more. I have heard the overnights on the 757 are killer.

I'm going for the 73 when I get my chance...so I can get back to the mistake on a lake.
