What's going on with CAL hiring? I heard they were going to scale back hiring off the street and pull more from CoEx since they are already in the system.

Anyone?

in what system? I don't think anyone has been called off the street that didn't have an affiliation with XJT, but I'm not sure. I am guessingn when people get called off the street there is going to be a ton of information on this board. Stand by for a response from Boieng man. He should reply. I am hoping for a call from CAL also.

I know there's a gal at SkyWest who has a class date.

LOL! Reminds me of about two years ago when I was flying Caravans for a freight company which was being sold to another. None of us wanted to work for this new company so 13 applied to Comair. Despite most of us having much more than the mins, all good pilots with good attitudes, two got calls and one got hired. She was very good pilot but did not even meet the mins. She got hired "pending" her reaching 200 hours multi and then was out right in class. And yes, the rack was substantial. Ahhh, whadayagonnado? We just laughed about it.

I'm waiting for CAL to call too and hope to find out soon that they are hiring off the street. I wonder though, doesn't hiring Xjet guys cost them a lot more? Now they have to train the Xjet pilot for CAL and hire and train another for the vacant Xjet position. This was one of the reasons AA was fighting against hiring "flowthroughs" during their last hiring boom. 3000 hired and only 134 Eagle guys flowed through.

Okay, here's the situation at ExpressJet with CAL. We had 3 different types of people going to CAL.....
1. Flowbacks- CAL people who flowed back to Express....they are all back at CAL!
2. Schindlers List- A list of 113 Express pilots who had Class dates at CAL prior to the ExpressJet spin off (and cancellation of the FTA) and 9/11. Gordon Bethune made sure they were taken care of and hence the nick name "Schindler's List guys". Most of the Schindlers list guys are at CAL or will be at CAL by the end of the month.
3. P.I.G's - Preferential Interview Guys. A few people from Express were given a preferential interview just after 9/11 as a consolation prize after the FTA was prematurly terminated. CAL isn't sure what they are going to do with those hired by the preferential interview. They may mix them in with people who are being hired right now, which in our opinion is unfair as the PIG's were hired over 2 years ago, they have letters to prove it.

Currently CAL is interviewing and I assume hiring.....though they are not interviewing ANYONE from Express. For me personally, I was in the Flow through hiring pool but two months too junior to get the initial preferential interview. So I cannot get an interview with CAL, doesn't matter what I do. So to answer the questions.........
I heard they were going to scale back hiring off the street and pull more from CoEx since they are already in the system.
CAL's training dept, Cheif Pilots office and others who actually understand pilots and how to train them think this is a great idea. Those who can make it happen don't like Express for some reason. The training dept says its dumb because ExpressJet pilots fly through training, its just a new plane....everything else is exactly the same. CAL/CALEX were once the most integrated two airlines ever. The flowbacks found that out when they came back to Express. In fact its so integrated that CAL can look at ExpressJet's employment records and know EXACTLY who they are hiring, something they can't do otherwise. However, the powers that be aren't interested in saving money and time....they don't like "Express kids" so they aren't hiring us.
The answer is No.....they will continue to hire exclusivly "off the street" so get your apps in and get studyed up!

Yes they are hiring off the street now. In fact I talked with a few down at the Airport Marriot in IAH a few weeks ago, so I will confirm that they are in fact interviewing.

Thats the deal.....get your apps in.

The companies are separate, sort of. CAL advertises them as different companies, and puts in *includes ExpressJet when it benefits them. So you can't really tell.

But an XJT Captain going to CAL will make $40k less the first year. He will be replaced by a new captain who gets a $20k raise, but still makes $15K less than the old guy made, plus the new captain only has 2 weeks of vacation... the guy who left had 3. The new captain will be replaced by a new FO making $15k less than the old FO. So there's a definite salary savings, less three training cycles, all of which are done totally in-house.

So right of the bat there is some savings, plus you have to figure that the new CAL FO (old XJT captain) and the new FO at XJT won't get any benefits their first 6 months (401-k, insurance, LTD, etc.) and the savings get even better.

I don't know if that savings shows up on the ledger at XJT or at CAL. But if it's at XJT, CAL can still save that money from a direct rebate from XJT, or by XJT lowering its block-hour price.

Geez guys. Quit crying in your beer. I've known the female pilot you're talking about for quite a while because she was a training captain at a 135 outfit we both worked for before she left for a 121 job. She's a good pilot with 121 PIC experience and has a solid track record of success in this business. CO hired a good pilot. Get over it. She is just as well qualified and experienced as any other CO new hire.

CO is definitely hiring and giving class dates to candidates other than Coe/XJet.

Dave,

I wouldn't worry about it 'cause there's nothing you can do. Some people will always be pointing fingers and trying to blame others for their own failures and shortcomings. Be it ALPA, mainline pilots, regional pilots, females, TV, their parents, the next door neighbor, Dr. Phil, or rock and roll. They are simply incapable of accepting responsibility for it themselves, so they find a convenient scapegoat.

Truly pathetic, if you ask me.

Lighten up man. I don't think the question was asked for affirmative action reasons as much as the guy just wants to know about the ta tas.

Dave,
It's ok if people degrade others achievments based on sex. I've flown with men and women that both of which have been great pilots and some that just plane sucked. Although great pilot with a great rack gets my vote.

miles otoole you are correct!
dave benjamin/YankMccobb- Just a joke..Lighten up

How did she get the interview so quickly?

Anyone know what the time frame is from interview to groundschool? Heard if you go to Guam the 1st year you get 2nd year pay. Haven't seen that anywhere so I was just curious if that's a fact or nice thought. Thanks for any info. :o
