Less than 1500TT? How much of that was turbine? Please say at least he was former military and all his time wasn't puttering around the sky in a 152! I have nothing wrong w/ pilots getting hired at low time and in fact say congratulations at beating the systerm and getting on ahead of others but at 900TT unless it was all military training I just don't know how you could transition over.....

CAL has several pilots hired with LESS than 1500TT. One in particular had around 900 hours, prior intern, and his brother was a Captain. So, it's all who you know, not what you know. Good for them.....dang it....

unless you're on the pilot selection board at CAL then you really have no way of knowing what flight times people get hired with. so much hearsay and what good is that?

i got hired with what i think is average flight time. some people got hired with 1/3 of my flight time. some were hired with 3x my flight time. do i care? nope. they have obviously done something to propel their careers forward just as i think i have done.

i met the mins of most airlines in the world. are they all gonna call me if i apply? i doubt it. i'd be surprised if any called at all unless i made genuine efforts to elevate myself above others.

CAL obviously knows what kind of people they want to hire. that's their choice and i welcome their philosophy based on the people i work with. it's a great place to be and i'm darn lucky to be there.

keep in mind, also, that they have just recently resumed interview calls. there are a ton of phone calls to go out in the coming year and beyond. lots of seats to fill.

Put it this way...from March 05 to April 06 there were about 700 new hire pilots at CAL. Of those 700, only 50 were under 29 (give or take). In my class of 12, there were 4 military and the rest were regional (including 1 corporate and 1 Airtran). 4 of us were under 30. 2 of the 12 had no turbine PIC. 1 intern in the group (he was one of the ones with no PIC). Overall a very balanced and good group of pilots in my class (and the other classes I met too).

When they first began hiring last year some sons and daughters of CAL pilots made it in ahead of the pack. Or so I hear.

There will always be somebody who got in ahead of everyone else. And Remember, that while the persons flying time plays a BIG part in getting them the interview....once they are in the door for that interview....it ain't about flying time....it's about you....thats where many make it or break it.

At "my house" there have been some so-called, "well connected" applicants get the shoot down....it happens...and I can guarantee you....it wasn't the flying time that played a part.

Having Your daddy Being A Big Scab helps Too! CO hired an ex ACA'er back in Sept 05 No 121 pic maybe 800 SIC Jet but hadn't touched the controls of a plane for almost 12 months but got hired there cuz of Daddy Scab. Well just after getting hired she decides to have kids! so after spending 3 months or something she goes on LOA so she doesnt have to be on RSV in EWR. The only good thing about it from what I was told is when she does come Back she still has to finish her probation out. like someone said it's not what you know its who you know. And No I am not bitter I dont even have my stuff in at CO as the thought of commuting or relocation to EWR, CLE or IAH are personally not to appeling to a West Coaster but I have friends that really want to work there with twice the time dedication and experience as this individual does but can't get a call.

Sounds very bitter and whiney to me. Otherwise why post if you don't much care?

Why Post? lets see it is well know from fellow insiders that this individual got special treatment during the interview process. such as being sent interview question and being flown in a day early to get FREE time in the MD-80 sim to practice the sim profile. Hum This sure sounds like special treatment to Me!

I'm not here to bash on CO pilot's just there stupid hiring pratices. I think this act then pulling the whole pregnecy thing hurts alot of Good, Qualified Female pilots that are either working for CO or in the Process of getting hired or thru training.

Deacon I'm betting that your a scab since you justify these actions or somehow know this individual first hand.

1) You can have a baby whenever you want. She did nothing wrong.

2) ALL airlines have their own dumbass hiring preferences because they want who they want, not those who think for whatever reason that they should be wanted.

When I got hired at XJT in 2000 there was a Marine F-18 guy who didn't get the job at my interview. I bet he was qualified, but he was not welcome. Why not? Who knows, but he wasn't.

Where did you hear that? I'm thinking we wouldn't want to spend the money to run the MD-80 sim any more than we have to.

Also I know the person you are refering to in a previous post. She was in my class and my sim partner. She did just fine and required not a single minute of extra training in the school house. Also her dad isn't a scab.

I think you may have some of your facts wrong.

Obviously sometimes an oops happens but I agree this is bulloney.

Dude What are you Smoking Her dad is a Big Scab! How do I know this cuz she goes around bragging about how her daddy scabed in 83. When she got hired at ACA she got teased every day and was called scaby becuase on her first day of class when everyone is doing the introducing yourself she just comes out and tells us all "Oh my dads a Scab" like its something to be proud of. sounds like you need to get educated pal.

Not bitter, eh? Good luck moving out of that RJ seat with that attitude.

And if you ever did get that interview at one of those west coast majors you're holding out for, I'm sure you would do all you could to increase your chances of getting hired. I doubt you would tell some check airman you knew: "Thanks for the offer for some free sim prep time, but it wouldn't be fair to the rest of the guys. And in fact, I'm not even going to ask my friends at [insert west coast major here] what the interview is like, because others may not have that resource available to them."

If I'm wrong, well, good luck getting ahead in life.

Uh, the strike didn't start until 1983.

Yeah You wrong Dusty I don't Work For a Regional I fly for NJA and Have been very Happy here with No thought of going back to airline flying. Again this is not a slam on CO pilots just there stupid hiring pratices of those few Scabs that have embedded themselves in the training department So they can get there children hired.

Also Dusty do you feel its right that CO is willing to give "Certin Individuals" FREE sim Prep, What happened to everyone is treated the same during an interview. Also having someone walk your resume in for you and putting in a good word is one thing. Not giving again "Certain" individuals Free Sim time and time to practice the profile before your interview on the companies Dim is two different things.

The person I'm talking abouts dad was TI. Again, where did you hear that people are getting free MD-80 sim prep? The only time I see that thing move is during interviews.

I think you need to go back to the fractional site.

And when did the strike end (with a contract)? Did those that went on strike come back with a better contract?

....never.
....no.

In my opinion, they are all scabs.

(is the NWA mechanics strike still an on going thing? or are they working with scabs?)

i agree. popgoesbubble sounds like his bubble already popped.

why not let people enjoy their jobs as you enjoy yours, pgbubble?

target your aggression somewhere else. as a CAL pilot, your spew is of no worth. i enjoy my job. you enjoy yours. leave it at that.

oh, and btw. LIFE AIN'T FAIR! if you haven't figured that out by now then you will always be the Grumpy Gus that you present yourself to be on here.

and if you are indeed happy where you are then why are you bitching about a job that you don't even want? that's the equivalent of me bitching about not getting the elephant dung scooper job at the zoo. who cares?

ah...another Saturday moment wasted on the internet.

WAH! Life's not fair people! CAL can hire whoever they like. They obviously liked her. The reasons are irrelevant. She's at CAL. I guarantee you that everyone of you, if you were in her position, would have taken advantage of the situation like she did.

It's all about who you know...bottom line. That's true in every facet of life. If you don't crash the sim and can carry on a conversation with 3 people in front of you and are well connected, you're going to get the job.

As the offspring of a scab she's got two choices as a pilot in this industry. Go to CAL or Airtran. I think she picked the right one but I have heard that Airtran has a larger percentage of scabs and she would probably fit in better.

She's a "scab" too, but would you really care if she was performing unmentionables on your hangdown?

Remember when Pilots looked like Pilots and the Flight Attendants looked like models. I liked it better that way.

..Thought you flew an RJ from your list of Aircraft... Anyway glad you're happy at NJA (Net Jets?).

To answer your question, I don't feel that it is right for CO to give certain individuals free sim prep, but you make it sound like CO's interview board set up a block of sim time for this person. It sounds more like this person had some good connections who took it upon themselves to help her get some practice while the sim was idle. Big deal.

Out of the 5 airlines I've been hired at over my career (I hope this is the last!), I didn't know anyone in any of my classes who didn't have some 'help' getting hired, including myself. That's the way it works.
