"CO is the first legacy carrier to bring back 100 percent of its pilots who were furloughed after the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001. The last of the pilots returned to work Friday to begin retraining.

"CO also is the first legacy carrier to hire new pilots. The first of approximately 100 XJT pilots begins training this month, with the first class this week. The pilots had been accepted and scheduled to begin training in the fall of 2001, but classes were canceled after Sept. 11."

Announced earlier in the week that they had 320 vacancies. Off the street hiring this summer it seems.

Actually,

The 100 XJT new hires are current XJT pilots who are transitioning to CAL as CAL new hires. It is actually 80 pilots at the moment, not 100 though. After the 80 comes 17 off the street pilots who had committment letters pre-9/11 and then they will begin hiring pilots from the XJT PIP group, some furloughed ATA pilots, as well as off the street pilots (the ratio is unclear at this time).

I should of written: "When hiring begins" about the website. Sorry about that.

My guess is the web site will be the last to be updated. I am thinking they are waiting for the closure of the recent bid and to find out just how many people bypass their recalls that have moved on for an accurate number to be hired.

Either way, there are vacancies on the bid that need to be filled with off the street hires as the XJET pool will be dried up with this bid.

As long as the retirement age doesn't change before then.

No big difference

Change in retirement will have little effect on hiring. Triple 2004 in 2007, subtract 600-800 over age 60 pilots at the most. It will not be a big difference. Remember most of the hiring will be at the regionals and nationals who do not have great number of pilots coming up on age 60.
