Continental Airlines Inc. flight crews reported their aircraft running low on fuel nearly 100 times last year during approaches to New Jersey's Newark Liberty International Airport, sparking concerns from air-traffic controllers, regulators and the carrier's own pilots, according to a federal report.

That's because 75 even with winglets and half water is not an airframe to go to Paris etc.

And scabs or those who flew with them for 15 years are not brave enough to rock the boat.
 
That's very naive thing to say. Although it's a stretch, the B757 can make the trip from the most European cities it currently serve with a few exeptions. What's preventing it from happening is Boston and New York centers screwing around with rediculous profiles, vectors and delays, some occuring as soon as they cross the U.S.-Canadian border. Many European city pairs over the atlantic in the winter you would just piss money by away by flying the B767s. Why do you think Delta just bought like 14 ETOPS B757s from AA throwing them on their think routes. They know it works, so they are copying.
