CAL MEC Chairman’s Update
June 17, 2005

This week at the MEC offices, we welcomed aboard more new hire pilots as our seniority list continues to grow in conjunction with our airline...CAL is increasing the hiring to 20 pilots per week.

where is all this hiring coming from? retires or increase in flying? I hope they dont hire too much and then furlough agian in 3 or 4 yrs.

I, for one, am very excited about all of this new hiring. Hopefully, the other majors will start too.
As for Continental, I am curious as to where all these people are coming from. Like the rest of you, I downloaded my quals into their web site the day it opened, and have been updating weekly, but no call.
Also, I have asked many people, and nobody knows of ANYONE getting any calls. Except, of course, this infamous 24-year old posted on the other thread.
Does anyone have any contact w/ Continental that they are willing to share so the rest of us might have a shot.

What is the Chief Pilot's name?
What is the name of the chief pilot recruiter?
What is the interview like? Still doing the MD-80 sim?
Time between interview call/interview/knowing if you are hired/start date.

Good luck to all, and I hope we all get our dream jobs.

Patience.

Riggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhttt. I would feel the same if I saw 80 pilots a month being hired at CAL and I was not yet one of them. Persistance and perseverance.

The flying is coming from new international cities, new aircraft, and an dramatic increase in the number of early-out retirements. Taken from the CALFORUMS Bboard................

" Previous estimate schedules put the retirements for 2005 at 145 and 2006 at 242. This is of course before concessions were taken. This new retirement schedule for 2005-2006 allows for approx. 204 retirements for 2005 after 6/21/2005 and for approx. 80 for 2006, the last being 7/30/2006. With approx. 67 retirements as of Jan 2005 and a plan of 145 total retirements, will the remaining early retirements of approx. 126 be backfilled with this adjustment bid? or will CAL wait until the next system bid to see just how many more early outs we have? Either way. approx. 277 vacancies will need to be filled before the end of 2005. 126 new CA, 126 new FO to replace upgrades and the 22 new 777 FO's. The other question is, were these taken into account with the last bid? I think not since I recall the last bid only accounted for new aircraft, new routes, and planned retirements. I figure CAL will now need to hire the 550ish + the 270ish for a new total of 830 or so new pilots between now and August 2006. "

I would take it that CAL is planning on the early-outs and is increasing the hiring accordingly. Even if all of the early retirements back out and wait until 60, we will still need all of the 80 a month anyway. The reason being more international cities. CAL just announced Cali, Columbia out of Houston and Buenos Aires, Argentina out of Houston.

Nice......shouldn't be too long before all of the SCABS are gone!

Looking at the retirement list it doesn't seem like that many are on it.

Make sure you mention this observation to the guy in charge of recruiting. If there is anything else I can do to prevent those with attitudes like yours from coming onboard, let me know. The last thing this pilot group needs is more friction.

For the record, my woerthless ALPA pin has a star attached to it.

Looking at the list for new hires. Of the 98 hired through the 6/7/05 class, 15 went to GUM, the rest will be EWR 737 F/O's.

Boeingman,

The guy in charge of recruiting will never see my app cross his desk. Not because I think it is a bad airline, I just don't want to live in any of the Domocile cities. I have commuted enough in my career....no more.

What does the star on your ALPA pin mean?

I don't have the star on my ALPA pin, much less a pin. I still wear the cheesy id hanger though. You want Boeingman.
