Continental Airlines Business Class Service Rated #1 Among U.S. Carriers by Conde Nast Traveler
Thursday October 25, 12:52 pm ET
HOUSTON, Oct. 25 - For the 10th consecutive year, Continental Airlines (NYSE: CAL - News) outranked all of its U.S. competition in international business class and domestic first class service, according to results of a survey of Conde Nast Traveler readers published in the magazine's October 2007 edition.

Overall rankings were determined using a variety of criteria, including Seat Comfort/Legroom, Food, Cabin Service, Amenities/Technology, Airport Lounge Clubs and Frequent-Flier Privileges.

Continental's renowned BusinessFirst service has topped the international premium-class service offered by the airline's U.S. peers in the Conde Nast Traveler rankings since 1998. In addition, BusinessFirst has won the Best Executive/Business Class award in the OAG airline of the Year Awards for five years in a row (2003 - 2007), based on voting by frequent flyers worldwide.
In the 2007 Conde Nast Traveler rankings, Continental also placed highest among U.S. carriers for domestic premium-class service. In addition, survey participants ranked Continental's seat comfort/legroom, airport lounge clubs and frequent-flier privileges above all major U.S. carriers.
The Conde Nast Traveler rankings were compiled from surveys of more than 2,000 frequent business travelers.
Continental Airlines is the world's fifth largest airline. Continental, together with Continental Express and Continental Connection, has more than 3,100 daily departures throughout the Americas, Europe and Asia, serving 144 domestic and 138 international destinations. More than 400 additional points are served via SkyTeam alliance airlines. With more than 45,000 employees, Continental has hubs serving New York, Houston, Cleveland and Guam, and together with Continental Express, carries approximately 67 million passengers per year. Continental consistently earns awards and critical acclaim for both its operation and its corporate culture.
For the fourth consecutive year, FORTUNE magazine named Continental the No. 1 World's Most Admired Airline on its 2007 list of World's Most Admired Companies. Continental was also named the No. 1 airline on the publication's 2007 America's Most Admired airline industry list. Additionally, Continental again won major awards at the OAG Airline of the Year Awards including "Best Airline Based in North America" for the fourth year in a row, and "Best Executive/Business Class" for the fifth consecutive year. Geez...you need a Kleenex now, or what?

#1 to a travel magazine.

Call your mom. She'll want copies for the neighbors...

I'd rather be number one in pay/workrules.....;)

To all newhires.... look in the mirror and say after me...

"I don't have med bennies for six months and am making regional pay BUT GOSH DARN IT PEOPLE LIKE ME!"

I always find it funny when we win best Business Class. It is only because it beat other business classes. CAL does not have real first class like the other airlines. Therefore they are comparing our "top" class with the others "mid" class. Not really apples to apples in my opinion.

Don't forget AA, United, US AIR, and even the Great UPS, all within $5 of first year pay.

YGTBFK....

so, it is OK for CSA's and ramp agents to have benefits immediately upon employment BUT PILOTS have to wait SIX months!?!

thor2j,

i used to work for pinnacle airlines(one of the worst regionals when it comes to pay and work rules), and some of their work rules are better than ours. It's all about pay and work rules. Hopefully we have the g(N)uts to take it back.

No, of course it's not right. But many, including me, think that CAL is the best place to be long term. And this is a long term decision, not one lasting 6 months, or 1 year. Looking at the alternatives, which were staying at a regional, or going to a major that I don't think has a long term plan, going without health for 6 months really didn't seem like that much of a sacrifice. Yes it's something that needs to get fixed, but it obviously isn't keeping people from coming here.

It needs to get fixed and it is a huge sacrifice to many people!!! you and I might have been able to accept the terms w/out any ramifications, but it doesn't make it right. It's up to me and you(and everyone else here) to make Continental a great long term decision.

I turned down CAL to stay at a regional.

THAT's how bad it is at CAL and yes, I did stay at Holiday INN Express last night. LOL

No you didn't. You applied your little heart out, interviewed your little heart out, and failed. Take the high road all you like, honey, but the rest of us know what really happened when you went to interview.

Good luck with your sugarmama at UAL. I hear they like your kind over there. Of course, after you blow that interview, I expect to see multiple threads about how you passed up *2* majors to stay at a regional because of QOL, etc... By the way, how is the QOL at XJT as a reserve captain, if you don't mind my asking....

Do yourself a favor sweetie. Quit posting here. Your lack of credibility is astounding.

You're lucky that CAL turned you down, I'm quite sure that you don't have the sense that it takes to pass a checkride here. Now shut up and crawl back into your hole.

I have some friends who used to be check airman at XJT before coming over to CAL. The failure rate for initial upgrades was over 50% at one point. Anybody wanna take a guess as to how many times Pocono failed his type/ATP ride?

LOL!

I'm thinking she's butt ass ugly also. I don't know why, I just see her mother as "You're so pretty, you can do ANYTHING, You're so pretty, those people making fun of you are jealous!"

I am just curious. If you never liked them and say how bad it is there. Then why the hell did you ever apply??? duhhhh I don't want the job so I will apply anyways?????

I am not saying any of it is right. I am simply pointing out that this is all that anybody says about CAL. "$30/ an hour and now benefits for 6 months". Yes it sucks, but soemone come up with something original because many majors first year pay sucks.

This isn't a sprint race.

Hopefully this will get fixed soon.

A quick credibility reminder

Posted on 2/24/07

I agree.

With all the retirements, CAL could be the most secure major out there. Also, there is a good chance that CAL will be the highest paid eventually with a new contract.

I hope to be there soon.

Rejection hurts. You should get some therapy.

Actually I was under the impression that the reason that the pilots don't get bennies for the first six months is because it is a system wide thing for all new employees at CAL from ramp to pilots. No bennies for the first 6 months for anyone. I could be wrong.

Bleagle:

Ok, I'll rephrase. What makes you think that any other non-management employee gets medical bennies before 6 months?

Looking at the CAL website, it appears that they have to wait as well.

On the first day of the seventh month of employment, employees may elect to participate in the following Group Insurance Plans.

I just want to know if you know something different, and can provide corroberating evidence; or are you spewing trash when you don't really know what you are talking about? It's ok to admit it. We all do it here. I like to be proved wrong.

I think it is criminal for ANY employee to have to wait.

Do the executives have to wait?

You forgot to add the words "got" and "so I had" to your comments.... should have read:

"I got turned down at CAL so I had to stay at a regional."

I'm in 3rd year pay, making more than I would have as a line pilot at XJT after 9 yrs and I haven't even upgraded yet. That's with a crappy contract with absolutely no work rules. All done through trading, no straight pickups. Oh, and I gained three additional days off. Granted, I have to work my shedule pretty hard by trading for more productive trips, but it goes to show you there is a lot more to the paycheck than what you read on airlinepilotcentral.com. Heard through a new-hire the other day that they are telling them plans are to have 8,000 pilots on property within 5-7 years. Whether or not that actually happens (I too have my doubts), it's nice to see mgmt has such ambitious growth plans. Even if they're half wrong anybody hired today will have a lot of pilots underneth them in a few years (barring any catastrophic event). Tell me again why it sucks to be at CAL?

I am not referring to CAL CSA's.... the point is that there are full time employees at other airlines who don't have to wait for SIX months for bennies.

Since we are going to just focus on CAL... Why do CAL employees (especially with dependents) need to wait SIX months for bennies?
Remember, I am on their side.... CAL is recognized as an admired company and it is an inconsiderate policy at best for ALL the hard working/ loyal employees at CAL. But don't worry, management [at some airlines] get bonuses when the hard working employees help maintain fuel savings and on time performance.

Again, are you trying to justify this policy because it applies to everyone at CAL?

Don't you CAL guys worry about my LOOKS. I've never had any complaints. And I've sampled a Captain or two in my day...before I was married that is. LOL

OTOH, I've seen some pretty chubby CAL pilots down in Houston. HAHA. Probably the guys typing on here right now. LOL

It is so funny to read your posts. It is the worst impression of a guy trying to act like a flaky girl that I have ever seen. It is like a really bad comedy show.

Have fun.
