Do you people realize the full ramifications of cabatoge??? Look at the US maritime industry their is none! Why crew a ship with US citzens when you can go to South America and get someone to work for 3 pesos a day.

Branson will eat us alive with this one. He already wants to get a bunch of folks from Australia to fly 737's. I think someone said he wants to pay the captains like 80k a year. 80K to fly a 737 what a joke.

You people think regional payscales are bad, wait till your flying a NB at current RJ rates.

Wait till someone goes on strike, company won't care. Why?because they can import a bunch of Jose's and Mujabars to work for 1/4 what you were.

Cabatoge is bad news folks! If this goes through none us with be participating in this forum. Unless you speak spanish or french.

Thirteen killed as Sudanese cargo plane crashes.
A Sudanese cargo plane caught fire and exploded while preparing to land at a southern airport, killing all 13 people aboard, the airline's chief said.

Get ready to have 3rd world aircraft and 3rd world pilots fly in American Airspace.

And as long as the almighty $$ and big business rule.....it will happen.

No worries folks. The first large air disaster of a cabatoge aircraft will be a feeding frenzy for the press with ALPA, APA and every other pilot union feeding the press frenzy. Then it will be the end of cabotage and perhaps the end of penny pinching management. Its only gonna get worse before it gets better.

I doubt we'd allow cabotage on a mass scale. Talk about an outcry. Also, I think it'd be a huge security issue. I mean think about it... right now, if you are a foreigner, you gotta jump through all kindsa hoops just to get to the sim, and now if they're gonna fly domestic here?!? Naw.

However, if it were to happen... I think ALPA-wide SOS would be appropriate. I think most non-ALPA carriers would follow suit too. At least I hope so....

Actually, I think domestic pax cabotage may be closer than we all suspect. I hope not.

Read the following news report.

Monday November 24, 8:45 AM EST

BRUSSELS, Nov 24 (Reuters) - The United States and the European Union could strike an "open skies" airline pact within the next 12 months, a senior U.S. Commerce official said on Monday.

The European Commission has won the power to negotiate a bilateral transatlantic deal from EU member states, who previously struck their own agreements with Washington.

"I think there is enough progress that we could see an agreement in the next 12 months," U.S. Commerce Under Secretary Grant Aldonas told a conference during a visit to Brussels.

The talks have focussed on Britain's reluctance to grant wider access to Heathrow airport, where only two U.S. carriers, AMR American Airways (AMR) and UAL Corp's (UALAQ) United Airlines can fly, and U.S. limits on foreign airline ownership.

European airlines such as British Airways (BAY), Lufthansa (LHAG) and Air France (AIRF) are keen for negotiators to get a wider deal than take-off and landing rights.

They also want the U.S. to allow EU carriers to perform "cabotage", domestic services within the U.S. as well as ease the U.S. ownership restrictions.

European officials have backed a transatlantic pact as a way of furthering airline consolidation within the EU by removing the nationality clause from current airline agreements.

U.S. airlines believe some European environmental standards, such as noise that limit flights, are too restrictive.]

What's all this cabatoge talk? I just wanna know when I get to be a jet captain....it is my entitlement!!!!

KC-10, if they allowed this to happen... I'd be all for a nationwide SOS.

Are you kidding me? nationwide SOS.... 30% of the pilots would talk trash about doing it and 5% would actually go through with it. It's all about the dollar in my pocket......TODAY!

OMG They have lost their minds! Truly lost their minds.

They also want cabotage? Well how about US cabotage in Europe?

Even if it's not cabotage I think there are plenty of US airlines doing intra-europe and intra-asia flights. Fedex, UPS, NWA and UAL comes to mind. Now, do you want those companys to lose their traffic rights (5th freedom)?

Ever since Hank Duffy peed down his leg and turned tail on the security and drug testing issues, SOS is no longer on the table.

All the profitible airlines don't want to rock the boat and the others don't want to put their carriers out of business.

Bend over, the seeds of our demise were planted 20 years ago.TC
