How about this...none of us know the day nor hour of our death. Can we please stop being so analytical and technical about everything. A captain lost his life...he has a grieving family...let's just keep him in our prayers.

Just found this in some sailing publication:

Local Sailor Drowns in Marina
March 26, 2008 – Alameda

Boaters and their families celebrating Easter Sunday at Marina Village had a holiday they'd probably rather not remember when the body of a berther was found floating next to his boat. Jay Thinnes, a commercial pilot, was found dead in the water beside his Hunter 31 Sunset Woman about 2 p.m. by the Alameda Police. They had been notified that he was missing by America West Airlines, after Thinnes failed to show up to pilot a flight that morning.

Thinnes reportedly lived in Sedona, Arizona, but regularly laid over in San Francisco, where he enjoyed sailing the Bay aboard Sunset Woman. (He had just been out sailing the previous day with his co-pilot.) Although there was no evidence of foul play, the incident is under investigation.

. and everyone one knows what a freaking joke the FAA medical is.

Obviously, you are somewhat unhappy with the FAA medical you get. But, there is another way.

First...fire your AME. Let him know why you are looking for someone else....maybe that will help him raise his standards to your liking.

Next... Find those AME's that nobody goes to...the ones that have terrible reputations from pilots who say that their physicals are too tough. They're out there and should be easy to find.

Make an appointment with one of those AME's....no doubt their appointment book has openings.

Let us know how it all goes for you.

Jay always liked to have a good time. I lost track of him about 20 years ago when he left CHS. Glad to hear he got on AW mainline and made Captain.

Any surivors? Wife, kids?

Drank so much it caused him to drown. Yeah...he liked to have a really good time. Now look what he did to himself and his family. I don't know why so many of you guys think you have to get hammered all the time in order to live life. It's an addiction and a stupid one at that.

You guys who pretend you want tougher FAA physicals --- the FAA phyiscal is ONLY designed to cover the basics of sight and hearing and a few other obvious problem such as extreme blood pressure or ECG. Mass air travel for the public requires two pilots anyway, so big deal if one guy strokes out. How often have you heard of an airliner crashing because one of the pilots became incapacitated? Thus....no super duper FAA physicals. The government never wanted to burdon pilots with expensive and time intensive stress/treadmill tests and CAT scans for anyuresiums, and tumors, etc.....it would take so much time there wouldn't be enough doctors and the expense would be astronomical. Besides, most groundings are self disclosed, so if you want a more rigorous physical, go buy one for yourself and quit knocking the FAA physical. It does what it was designed for....period.
