Please, don't turn this into a flame war. I know what it is like to be furloughed, so please let your emotions rest for a moment. As a currently furloughed ABX 767 pilot, NO there are not "plenty of aircraft to go around".
Go around to whom, to guys that are flying the same plane for less than 1/2 of what I was making. The captains at amerijet are paid less than our F/O's. So again why would you not want the planes to stay at a company that pays a livable wage for flying a plane that can generate a good profit margin, even with an adequately paid flight crew. I would think that you would want to possibly get hired at such a company considering once off probation you would double your salary......... call me crazy but I go to work to make money, not just so I can say look at the cool 20 year old glass cockpit I get to fly.
P.S. I will not even getting into the whole scope argument because that is a lost cause with our current management.
We at Amerijet are doing our best to obtain a contract from which we will make a livable wage. Many of the Captains have been fighting for the union for years. Please don't put us down because of a situation we were forced into. Before 9/11, the pilots at Amerijet made more money than most flying the same fleet type. In fact, it was almost DOUBLE what they are making now. Their pay cuts were forced upon them, because no union would consider them for representation. The company took the money from the pilots without a vote, consultation, or even a hint.
Do you want the planes there? No. Do I? Yes. I want my job back just as much as you want yours back. Even though we disagree on that, it does not give anyone the right to put our pilot group down for things that the pilot group could not have controlled.
As fellow Teamsters, you should be supporting our efforts!
