I thoight we had rid this board of this idiot.......Hello, FL717. :) I'm still not sure why ANYBODY gives this guy "Lowecur" any more attention.......Because I entertain (some people) and give an opinion.

First off.... Lowecur is NOT an insurance salesman.......Yes, I am. Lowecur is a Pilot, No I'm not. and since this is an anonymous forum I won't post who this person is (though I would like to), but I know exactly who Lowecur is and who Lowecur works for......OK, you have my permission to post who I am and where I work, providing I am a pilot or work in this industry. You know what dork, you can't. and can only speculate the agenda he has........ (and it is all B.S)....... much like the drivel that Lowecur posted as "Joe Peeznotz" until that username got banned. I told you Columbo, you're all wrong.

Hey "Joe Peeznotz".... errr... I mean "Lowecur".......You can call me Ray or you can call me Jay, but you doesn't has to call me Johnson. since you want to be the Flightinfo "know it all master of the universe"........ why don't you take off the mask...... and state your agenda up front.......I have no agenda other than to offer my contrarian opinions. rather than continue to be a big Flightinfo P*ssy...... who posts on Flightinfo as all knowing.......all consuming..... for the sole purpose of being a big nudge.
Another paranoid conspiracy theorist.:D

Yeah, and they said that about PHL. FL is looking to reduce East Coast dependance, and DL has to do something to reduce expenses. Your gates may have not been open, but there a general usage gates that are. Don't kid yourself that DL is not next up in the crosshairs.

No, there are not general use gates that are open. As gates open up Airtran takes them over. You don't fly out of ATL on a daily basis, so maybe you should refrain from talking about something that you obviously don't know anything about.

Non contracted GU or 30 day permits are discretionary paly.....that's why there is no long term lease. Would the city yank them away from the users? Probably not as that's not good PR, but it does give them a certain amount of leverage if needed. Any new carriers would probably be sent over to E for a few gates.:)

From what I heard as a newhire, SWA looked at ATL years ago. They were not interested in Hartsfield . . . they were interested in outlying airports. They were also less than favorably received by local government.

I don't see them coming to ATL. Not with no gates, and DAL and AirTran's main hub. CVG would be a softer target.

It was Charlie Brown airport and the city council said no. Rumor was a few family members of the board worked for DAL. But Hartsfield was never the plan.

Hi!

My CEO was speculating-SWA in JAX as their new Southern city.

Back in the mid 90's when I was working at FTY in atlanta, the airport manager stated that SW was interested in coming in but the city council nixed the idea. If NAS Atlanta shuts down, SW could look into a joint-use type operation at Dobbins. Additionally, I have always wondered why they have not tryed to ink a deal at AHN which is almost more convenient to the busy north side of Atlanta than driving all the way down to Hartsfield. AHN would require runway extension and significant facility improvements to handle 737's. The big question is would it be lucrative after all of the improvements

Varmint, I've always wondered why only Airways utilized AHN with a few daily B1900 flights to CLT. It's a great airport in a fairly convenient location to the north metro, and an extension to the east side of 9-27 seems feasible. It would make for a good overnight too with cheap beer and UGA hotties running around.:D

what is the gate situation in CLT?

I don't know anything at all about the gate situation in CLT, but if SWA could get their foot in the door there, they would do very well. Passengers in CLT have felt for years that they were being taken advantage of by US Air and would come out in big numbers if SWA were to arrive. IMHO that is the southern city currently targeted or highly desired.

ATL - no way, at least not for now. SWA is disciplined about sticking with the "low hanging fruit" and ATL is presents SWA more cons than pros IMHO. Of course, I thought they were crazy to go to PHL. They seem to enjoy following US Air around and then kick some a$$ with US Air's high cost structure.

When I saw the title of this thread, I thought maybe General Lee had been killed in a bicycling accident.

SWA can always try to move into FTY again, or wait a few years and move into Dobbins ARB (the NAS there will be closing soon, leaving it open for possible conversion to a civilian field on the south side).

Hey, it's been years since I managed to get to Athens. Does that guy Dave, still sing at the Frog Pond? He coulda had a career if he'd just sing instead of drink.

enigma

When I was a newhire here at SWA, Pete McGlade, our in house genious of aircraft utilization and schedule planning, said if Dobbins opened for joint use we'd be there. He is one of the sharpest peple we have at the company ( and in the industry for that matter) and I believe him.

FTY was nixed by Atlanta at the time but remember, DL was doing well and had political clout like no other, well maybe AA. Rumor around here was Coca Cola didn't want the traffic in their backyard either.

Come On Dobbins........... Try....ing .....not......to...... hold.... my.....breath!

This is ancient history but many years ago I believe Midway I went into FTY for a short while. The NIMBY's went ape$h!t and they pulled out. But the idea has come up before. Good luck.TC

AHN hotties would be cool. Now all I have to do is not screw up the second interview at SWA, if they even want to see me again :).
