American Air to pay $2.5 mln to settle FAA cases
Tuesday June 1, 4:21 pm ET

WASHINGTON, June 1 (Reuters) - American Airlines agreed on Tuesday to pay $2.5 million to settle federal allegations the No. 1 airline and two affiliates violated maintenance and other regulations, the government said.

The Federal Aviation Administration said the settlement covers 50 pending enforcement cases brought by the agency between 1997-2003.

In addition to American, the settlement covers the major carrier's American Eagle regional affiliate and Reno Air, a Nevada-based airline bought by American in 1998. The alleged violations covered maintenance, flight operations, training, safety and suspected record-keeping irregularities, the FAA said.

2.5 mil? That's nothing. They got off easy.
