BA circles bmi, American Airlines - paper

Thu Oct 18, 2007 LONDON, Oct 18 (Reuters) - British Airways (BAY.L: Quote, Profile, Research) is looking at merger opportunities that could create a trans-Atlantic super-carrier in response to a joint venture between Delta (DAL.N: Quote, Profile, Research) and Air France (AIRF.PA: Quote, Profile, Research), the Times said.
The newspaper said on Thursday that aviation sources believed British Airways (BA) was in talks with Michael Bishop, the controlling shareholder of bmi [BMID.UL], about buying the British carrier.
It also said that BA was considering a renewed attempt to merge with American Airlines (AMR.N: Quote, Profile, Research), despite two previous attempts being struck down by competition regulators.
"American Airlines is a key partner for us and in the long term we would like a closer relationship with them," a BA spokesman told Reuters in response to the report.
"We have never said that we are in talks with bmi," he added.

Bye Bye--General Lee

How many years of business school does it take to see this coming? AA and BA have had a "relationship" since most of the FI members were in diapers.

I'm guessing they will work some deal and BA will give some Asia slots to AA in return for more Atlantic flying.

Cheers! TC

This is news? They have wanted this since the mid 80's.

They are part of the "one world alliance" though (sounds like a WWE wrestling fraction).

My Dental Hygenist just got back from two weeks over in jolly old England. She said it was "scary stuff looking at all those cheddar cheese snagle tooths."
