With over 4,000 passengers stranded in Hawaii, why doesn't CAL, UAL, NWA, and DAL get a few 777's, A-330's, 747's, and whatever else they have lying around and make a few trips back and forth between HNL and the mainland. Sell the tickets on e-bay to the highest bidder and get those people back home while bringing in a great profit?

I'm obviously kidding about selling them to the highest bidder but seriously, is there something in the rules that would prevent that? Maybe those 4,000 people should break up into groups of 250 and call the airlines for a charter.

No spare airplanes= no spare seats. TC

.........The Hawaii Tourism Authority announced that it will underwrite two new flights to San Francisco to accommodate ATA and Aloha Airlines ticket holders on Monday, April 7 and Wednesday, April 9.........

Why should the nations airlines pick up the slack for those who shopped around the cheapest tickets on the internet (ATA)? Buyer beware. This is not a slight against the ATA crews at all. I mean this as a lesson to the public. They put themselves in this position.

I just spoke to a buddy of mine over there who is whinning about $160 airfares interisland. I told him I hope the fares go up to $250. With Aloha out of the market, that is the price the public will have to pay to go play.

And if I were a Hawaii State taxpayer, I would be furious that my government was using taxpayers dollars to bail out the shoppers of cheap travel.

Just my $.02, flame away.

Man, you're one of the heartless conservatives, aren't you?

Just kidding bro...I agree with your post 100%. You get what you pay for. Don't forget Hawaii is a blue state. They like it when the government pays for everything.

What I want to know is this...how do the Hawaiians feel about Go putting alot of Hawaiians on the street? (I'm assuming that mostly mainlanders are buying tickets on Go)

For Hawaiian the opposite is true. They are the heros in this situation. Passengers will remember that Hawaiian bailed out as many passengers as they could.

United wants as much press about this as possible to send the message that buying a ticket on a smaller or discount carrier is a mistake. It's working. Many of the passengers speaking on TV are confirming this view.

There was one family that purchased a ticket to Hawaii on Aloha, then, after Aloha's demise, purchased a ticket on ATA because it was the cheapest, then finally went out on Hawaiian. Ouch...

That deserves a

PRICELESS

Why would any of us send a plane to get those passengers out of HNL? I'd charge them each 5000 grand to get them out. Price of doing business on the internet at the LOWEST CHEAPEST PRICE. Love it....

Danm skippy!!!!!!

They knew what they were getting themselves into when they bought the tickets......I say, LET EM DIE!

You're right. They should have known that two airlines serving Hawaii would shut down last week leaving them and 6,000 others virtually stranded with no options for days. They should have known that a vacation or sporting event they have been saving for the last three years was a bad idea because their airfare was too cheap. When they bought their tickets, they should have offered to pay more for their tickets because they should have known their pilots weren't being adequately paid.

Yeah, I say let em die too! In fact, all passengers should be stranded for a while. That will teach em!

5000 grand...don't you think $5 million is a bit steep for a ticket? You could buy a Caravan on amphibs for that.

P.S. What's the word on CAL nowadays?

It’s amazing how jaded you airline guys are – thankfully I got out 6 years ago! If your Mom or Sister were over there trying to get home I bet you would sing a little different song?

How is it the passengers problem that two airlines, both serving the Hawaiian Islands failed in the same week?

Contrary to you, people don’t follow the airlines and then study their balance sheet before they book a trip – some people do have a life. Yes, they do book the most affordable ticket! Do you not do the same thing?

Do you always buy from Saks 5th Ave, your suits from Brooks Brothers and groceries from Central Market because you “know what you’re getting”? Or do you buy from places like Old Navy, The Men’s Warehouse, Albertsons and Target because you can save a few bucks? Yea, that’s what I thought!!

How about the folks who were using there points and miles to take a vacation (SWA & ATA) and are now stranded?

Neither Aloha nor ATA were fly-by-night operators. Aloha has been in operation since 1946 and ATA since 1973.

But what do you care? You just drive the bus.

Why should the real airlines go out of their way to help out passengers who chose not to do business with them. While it is not the passengers fault that the airlines went under, it is the cost of purchasing tickets on a LCC. They'll all make it off the island, not happy that United won't honor the tickets they have already purchased, but they'll make it off eventually. No one is for denying them a ride, they just have to wait in line with everyone else.
