What a great job our men and women in uniform do taking care of each other on top of all the crap being reported by the press...

Do you work for ATI? If so, how are things going. I was furloughed from ATI back in 2000. Just talked to a guy from my ATI newhire class tonight. He is about to be furloughed from Midwest Express for the second time since leaving ATI.

I hope you are getting a lot of AMC stuff.

Actually this is extremely close to the truth. The Baath Party was structured on the National Socialism model of the same stripe and during the same era as the two you mentioned, with the additional facet of being designed to control a Muslim populace. The regular Iraqi Army is similar to the regualar German Army of WW2. The Republican Guard is much like the SS. Internal control of the populace assured by the Feydayeen, who terrorize the populace and act as a secret police just as the Gestapo did. Even the simplistic visuals and propoganda this regime uses are straight out of the playbook developed back then. Even their trappings are similar. None of this is coincidence...it was designed to be that way from it's inception.

Founded during the early 1940s by Arab intellectuals educated in France (no suprise here, France was a hotbed of socalistic tripe back then just as they are today ), it's no suprise the Baath Party/Hussein has always received the bulwark of it's support from the Soviets and the French. Even Bin Laden recognized this and railed against the "socialists" in Iraq, and although many people in the region erroneously support Hussein for religious reasons, the Baath Party's willingness to expend the lives of anyone...man, woman, or child...in an attempt to retain power is classic nat'l socialism. The other day the Iraqi Minister of "Information" said that any Iraqi age 14 and up would be carrying a weapon and fighting. I think that was about the age Hitler Youth were ordered out to fight during the dying gasps of the 3rd Reich.

IMO, this war has more to do with political ideology than religion, culture,or oil, no matter how much the "peace activists" are duped into thinking differently. Iraq (along with N Korea) is one of the last remnants of militant National Socialism/Stalinism, and a dying leftover from the Cold War where Iraq was in the periphery of the sphere of Soviet influence. The lesson of N Korea is that such dictatorships can be handed down to a son, and Hussein has 2 sons eager to take over the "family business". Faced with the possiblilty of this regime lasting for DECADES into the future, this war is about removing the threat to everyone around it.

and start a nuclear exchange with every dick that has a nuke? get your head outa your ass, pal. the usa isnt the only country on the planet.

How 'bout you stop shooting your own troops first and then worry about the iraqi's, speaking of which, how'd they manage to knock out those three Abrahams tanks? those thing s are near indestructible?

Oh, don't get your panties in a bunch, nobody's nuking anyone.... there's no need to.

As for your last statment, is that all you can come up with?..3 Abrams (not "Abraham") tanks? HeII, since they far outnumber the American/British forces in terms of tanks, APCs, and troops, you'd have thought the Iraqis could put up a better showing.

As they continue to get more desperate, I wonder how many more of their own Badgad marketplaces the Baaths will blow up for the TV cameras to fight their propoganda war?

Skaz,
Depends on how you define "knocked out": immobilized or destroyed. I believe one of the Abrams went off of a bridge and the crew drowned. The others I think were hit by infantry with RPG's in the rear engine compartment (that and the top are traditionally the weak spots of any tank). The crews of those tanks were ok, and the tanks were simply towed back to maintenance for repair.

Those who don't study history....

From a PBS Frontline Interview:

He (Saddam Hussein) has a full library of books about Stalin. He reads about him, and when he was a young man -- even before he attained any measure of power -- he used to wander around the offices of the Ba'ath Party telling people "Wait until I take over this country. I will make a Stalinist state out of it yet."

46driver thanks, the only intelligent reply.I was in the branch of the RSA special forces, armour. So interested in what happened. Didnt think the Iq's could penetrate armour like that with a RPG.

catyaak so english isnt my first language and I was in a hurry, ABRAHAMS A1 MBT, that better?
The Iragi army consists of mostly conscripts, not professional soldiers, thus the present level of performance.

Not really, you still got it wrong. M1A2 Abrams MBT, named after Gen. Creighton W. Abrams.

The Republican Guard divisions now being destroyed are made up of professional soldiers, not conscripts. A few days ago, they heavily outnumbered the American armour. Soon, they won't exist at all.
