Dear Members:
The recent policy decision by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) to require that all persons, including pilots, be screened by Advanced Imaging Technology (AIT) machines and/or highly intrusive pat-down searches is the latest change in a long line of ever-increasing security measures that unnecessarily frustrate and burden airline pilots.
Instead of merely complaining to the media about the changed procedures or writing to you with advice on the security screening options that you already know, I decided to try to change the U.S. government’s decisions. I have told our members and representatives on numerous occasions that your union’s influence in government, legislative, and regulatory matters is based upon our access to the highest levels of this government, and that access is due to ALPA’s long-term commitment to provide member expertise and dedicated professional staff to find solutions, instead of merely making media noise.
Last Thursday I contacted the White House with our concerns. On Friday evening, ALPA staff and I met with the TSA to present our members’ serious concerns with AIT screenings and pat-down frisking and, more importantly, to offer solutions to t.... blah blah blah... vague, unverifiable bullsh*t... blah, blah, blah... no real opinion.... blah, blah, blah... keep paying your dues, CREWPass is right around the corner... ...workers and ALPA members including the current security dilemma that we face.

How can alpa represent majors and regionals equally?

Now name 5 items that were against a majority of its members wishes or were never gotten - hell name 10 ( 5 is too easy)

ALPO didn't cause GoJet. TSA pilots voting 'no' did. In their defense, they were voting on a horrible contract with an extension. But, secure the planes first.....duh!! Flame away

If ALPA does not work to get pilots an exemption, then we need a recall election for every executive position. Strongly worded e-mails don't mean squat. What will ultimately have to happen is for every pilot to boycott the scanners, should they become required, shutting down the system until they make an exception for flight crews.

ALPA is TSA pilots, they are ALPA. Actually what caused gojets was the idiotic scope restriction of AA pilots forcing regionals to start seperate certificates if they wanted to fly 50+ seaters for anyone else. The irony is that Tsa doesn't even fly the AE planes for them anymore yet it completely changed the future for TSA. Most likely will shut down if they can't get anymore 50 seat flying. Too bad.
