Boeing is stupid too because the airlines have been asking them for a 57 replacement for years.

757 would look good in SW colors... and would instantly render the A321 obsolete.

Burns too much gas, as for performance, the 757 will eat the 321 for lunch though.

Profit wise, 321 eats the 757, no brainer. Domestically that is.

Heck, why not just fly around a bunch of pax configured gulf streams around?

There nothing to compare with the 757. long legs for a narrow body, good performance from shorts runways,SNA, and great at hot and high airports. I often wondered what new engines could have made the 757 into a 757MAX.

Interesting factoid about the Gulfstream birds, at least up to the new G650:

The fuel system is essentially one big tank with a baffle at the keel separating it into left & right tanks. As a result there is no way to hold fuel out in the wings making the max zero fuel weight very low. The G450 and G550 can only hold about 14 pax and bags without going over MZFW. It is a narrow plane as well, would have been 3 across seating.

But my oh my the performance would be fantastic for an RJ. M.88 and rocket ship climb rates!

Except for the runway performance, range, payload, and speed, you're correct.

What do you think the original CRJ-200 was? A stretched 601. No sh1t performance is going to suffer, genius. Airlines don't care about that, excess performance just means you're not hauling enough revenue generating weight.

The 787 was too little too late. Boeing (Commercial Aircraft) is headed to the dust bin of history.

Sad to see it end.

The 200+ Boeing orders at Farnborough tend to render your opinion moot. Granted Airbus had 400+. However 200+ commercial aircraft orders at one airshow isn't exactly going to put them out of business.
