Hamilton discounted the suggestion that Boeing might be disposed to ally with Delta management, which is fighting the takeover bid, simply because Delta has been a loyal customer. The Delta fleet of 438 aircraft is all Boeing, including 134 McDonnell Douglas MD80s and MD90s. (Boeing merged with McDonnell Douglas in 1997.)

"I think Boeing's inclination will be to favor whoever can give them the highest number of airplane orders going forward," Hamilton said. "I think it will be a cold, hard business decision."

I think I have heard of a large DL 787 order upon exit of BK, along with many 737-700 orders. Count on it. (USAir still has A350 orders, and just ordered additional A321s) Who is this Hamilton guys anyway? Delta is one of the largest Boeing customers, and USAir defected for Airbus, along with AWA. The majority of their planes are now Airbus....but they COULD MAYBE order more Boeings, even though their fleet would still be have an Airbus majority....BUT THEY COULD order Boeings.... riiight. Thanks Hamilton for your insight....

Do you really think Parker would let this deal slip away without making his own deal with Boeing if that is what it took? Boeing is posturing and trying to force Parker to come to them and make a deal at least equal to the one Grinstein made.

General Lee, I'm starting to wonder if you know how these guys get things done during high level negotiations.

Wow, you really must be a Gordon Gecko. Do you think we at DL haven't already done that? Really? How dumb do you think people in the South are? USAir has already ordered more Airbus planes, and they won't be cancelling that order to order a few more Boeings.

Makes me wonder if LCC will kill off its A320/319 fleet in order to court Boeing. Can they also drop there A330s and replace them with 777s in order to court Boeing? How many Airbuses does LCC have on order? DAL has some substantial Boeing orders over the next 36 months, I do believe DAL has close to $4B in future Boeing orders.

LCC is unlikely to cancel its Airbus orders but management has already told us they're planning a 737 replacement order. HELLO, that means at the very least Boeing is in the bidding for some or all of those planes. I don't know why so many of you think LCC is married to Airbus. The OLD USAirways was but the NEW USAirways isn't. And you can bet that if it takes a Boeing order to woo them into supporting the DAL merger it will be done.

i wish i had money, i'd buy lots of boeing stock. as chair of the creditors comittee no matter how this turns out they're going to make lots of money.

Do you see Parker cancelling his Airbus orders and replacing them with Boeing orders? Can he cancel those orders?

I don't know. Delta took delivery of 737-800's in '04 or '05 then leased them to another party. They didn't see Delta paint at all. Apparently it was more expensive to cancel the delivery from the factory then to give them to someone else after.

Maybe USAir is stuck with their Airbus orders but they can lease them to JetBlue.

Those 738s went to Westjet, and came back after a 6 month lease I believe. They were not sold to them.
