Hi, happy monday!

Noticing that several comments on the Jetta thread involved bikes, I thought perhaps we could branch that into a new thread.


My dreambike? Yamaha V-max , no doubt. That machine makes other bikes krapp in their pants. Sounds like a V8 too, not a V4.

Hopefully it'll work into next year's budget...maybe a used one.

What do you guys ride (or would like to ride)?

I had an FXSTC. That's a Softail Custom for the uninitiated, but my wife "persuaded" me to sell it last year. Ouch.
If I ever get another Harley it will be a Springer Softail custom.

I rode Harleys from the time I was 18 (1981) until I sold my last one in 1996, including stints in two clubs (one shut down by Bandidos MC, one taken over by Outlaws MC) and wouldn't ride beside the Weekend Harley Crowd today if someone offered me a new SoftTail Custom. These guys kill me ... a new Harley on Thursday ... $500 worth of leather on Friday and PRESTO ... instant 'Biker' by Saturday night. Sheesh!

I'll take the Ducati 996 please! Oh ... thank you very much.

Got a '98 HD FatBoy - love it - only wish I had the new Twin Cam engine (preferably with the Big Bore kit) Of course, if you REALLLLY want to go big, then try for the Dodge Tomahawk.....

I couldn't see that happenin, but what do i know, i haven't riden any of em. Besides, 3/4 of my preference are for the vmax's looks alone!

Even standin still it looks like it's at 160mph.

Maybe my age is showing through then (28)! I do know my wife is much happier riding this bike. She hated the crotch rocket, both riding it and knowing how fast I rode it without her!

I think a motocross bike is in the near future, anyone got a good deal for me?

I have a 1982 Honda CBX 6 cylinder...

Have had it since 1989 when I picked it up with just 600 miles. I have 17K miles on it now. It cleans up almost as good as this one here from a web site...and mine still has the factory plexiglass on the fairing.

I wouldn't mind getting a nice new Honda ST1300 though! To go along with the CBX.

Please correct me if Iam wrong but I don't think there is a 996, I know of a 998 and 999, perhaps it is discontinued and Iam not aware of it.Let me know

I have not driven a motercycle since college, however back in 1988 I had a Kawasaki Ninja 600. Man it was sweet. Not very comfortable to ride for long distances. My mother won a Harley at a Casino, a TRoad King Classic. It is a beaut. She rides it everywhere, Sturgis, Daytona, Colorado etc. I'm jealous she will not let me ride it.

I much prefer sportbikes...currently ride a '97 YZF-600 that I bought brand new, has 45000 miles on it now. It's a great machine, very reliable...except for a recurring radiator problem, my third one now appears to be slightly redesigned, hope it lasts a while. It's a bit of a pig compared to the latest 600s, but it's comfortable for an all day ride (620 miles is my record), and it handles great in the twisties...suits my needs perfectly. Now I just need a new chain and sprocket, new front tire, new rear shock, etc. My next bike, without a doubt, will be the new Suzuki SV-1000...it looks really cool, with that V-twin torque and noise.

I agree with the previous posters about poseurs on Harleys... guys that ride because it's the trendy thing to do. Did ya ever notice how they never return the two finger wave? It must be because I ride a sportbike and I'm not worthy of their response. Oh well, they can go pound sand for all I care. I ride because it's fun, not to impress anyone or be trendy.

Back in the eighties I had a Ninja 600 then the 750. Today I'ld op for the BMW, sporty and can go the distance.

Hate the Hardly Dangerous crowd. Even my brother bought one. He's a CEO but on the weekend put on the black tee shirt and rub on tatoo and he's a biker too. What a poser. I bought him a clip on pony tail for Christmas one year.

'03 KTM 250SX. I worked at a shop for about 5 yrs. 3 while I was in college and then 2 yrs while I was flying and building time. Never really rode on the street to much. Too many cars. If I was to get a street bike, it would be a Ducati. Working in the motorcycle biz for so long, I got to know some Harley dealers. Man, did they rake in the cash! Bunch of rich wanna-be's. Ride a Harley, become a mechanic!

1995. Bought it on ebay out of Las Vegas and rode to Spokane last summer. Makes my back, neck, and butt hurt just thinking about it...

Great bike for running around town and limited off road but it's too heavy to really explore the forest in. It's too tall for me.

My first bike was a pull start dirt bike when I was 7. Then I got a YZ-80 at 12. My first road bike was a 1993 Kawasaki Vulcan 500. Then I upgraded to a 1998 Honda Magna, it was a fast bike. I sold it to go to flight school.

Currently I ride a 2003 Honda Shadow Spirit 750, good bike but the saddle is no good after 2 hours. If I had the money I would go buy a Yamaha Road Star Warrior, or a Victory Vegas. Maybe both, if I had the money. Ideally my future garage will hold a couple of cruisers, a dirtbike, and a couple of sportbikes, then I can have a ride for every mood.

I had an '88 K75S. Just right. I havn't got one now, but if I could-maybe a late 80s Moto Guzzi Le Mans or an early 70s (Snortin') Norton Comando (with the rear brake and shifter on the "English" side) or an 80s K100RS or a new Triumph.
Of course the second bike would be the MV Augusta.
