How could you all have missed this. Better go back and read your May '05 ALPA magazine. You will be happy to find "ALPA Takes a New Flight Path."stb said:until National comes up with some plan; anything.

Networ-King said:If there is EVER a way that you want to get Worthlesses attention this would be it. ...... everyone that agrees that ALPO has mis represented them needs to STOP PAYING THEIR DUES.......
BluDevAv8r said:I can't speak for other MEC's but my MEC (and pilot group) will not tolerate such an action. Our Dues Check-Off Section provides that we can (and will) have a pilot terminated for failure to pay the required amount. Failing to pay dues is NOT the best way to affect change within ALPA.

B. Agency Shop
1. Each pilot covered by this Agreement shall be required, as a condition of employment, beginning 60 days after the completion of his probationary period to (1) be or become a member of the Association, or (2) pay to the Association a monthly service charge for the administration of this Agreement and representation of the pilot. The service charge shall be in an amount equal to the Association’s regular and usual monthly dues and periodic assessments (not including fines and penalties).
2. If any pilot covered by this Agreement becomes delinquent in the required payment of the service charge or assessments, or if any Association member becomes delinquent in the payment of dues or assessments, the Association may immediately notify such pilot by certified mail, return receipt requested, with a copy sent by regular U.S. mail and a copy to the Director of Operations, that the pilot is delinquent in the payment of such service charge or membership dues as specified herein and is subject to discharge as a pilot for the Company. Such letter shall also notify the pilot that the required payment must be remitted within a period of 30 days or the pilot will be discharged.
3. If upon the expiration of the 30 day period the pilot remains delinquent, the Association may certify in writing to the Director of Operations, copy to the pilot, that the pilot has failed to remit payment within the grace period allowed and is to be discharged. The Director of Operations shall thereafter notify the pilot within 10 days of receipt of notice from the Association that he is to be discharged from the service of the Company ten 10 days from the postmark of the Director of Operation’s letter, of the reasons for this action, and of his rights under this section.

It's all about the money.

While you might construe your experience to mean ALPA is "all about the money," I disagree. There are, in fact, legitimate cases of delinquency and as a member in good standing, I (and 2600 other pilots at my airline) shouldn't have to pay dues while the members in bad standing "free load" and "shirk" and receive the benefits of the Association. Call it draconian but it is unfair to the rest of us when some decide not to pay, especially if it is part of some "protest" against the Association.

At any rate...if you don't like the representation afforded by ALPA, get decert campaign going and vote ALPA off of your property. Go see if the grass is greener my friend. Notice I never said ALPA was perfect. But there are certainly better ways to affect change than refusing to pay dues (which is what funds the day to day operations of your MEC). There is more I could (and want) to say but it will only fall on deaf ears.
