If you're following SWA into 9L at KFLL, go slow and keep your distance. SWA tends to roll to the end to avoid having to wait for JetBlue and Continental pushes to clear the taxiway into the SWA gates. If you get too close to the SWA fluff, you might find yourself going around. Forwarned is forearmed. ATC ain't gonna help, you gotta help yourself.

Now they'll never hire me!

Duude! I aint seeing no hatin in what Calvin is sayin. If I be flyin behind ole SWA or my peeps from da Tranny, and like it's a long runway and like a busy aeropuerto and stuff, I be expectin them peeps to like use a high speed, so maybe I'd like plan for dat too!

But if SWA needs to be like rollin to the end so they can like avoid like HUGE traffic jam up with ole JetBlue and them Connies, then that like makes goood sense and stuff to like roll out to the end, but Dude, if I didn't like live on flightinfo, how would I be knowin that??

Are you a redneck Vanilla Ice? You sound retahded.

How about looking behind your own airplane while on final with TCAS to see how the separation looks? If traffic is close in behind, plan on an earlier turn off so you don't end up causing a go around. If there is plenty of room, then consider a longer rollout for the more desirable turnoff and / or reduced braking. I am amazed that any of us would deliberately cause a go around and not care because it is a competitor. That is about as useful of a tactic as jumpseat wars. So, I will just assume that the original message of this thread is overblown.

I do know how to handle it. But I've watched enough rejected landings by planes following SWA to realize that others may not be READY to handle it. As I wrote, forwarned is forearmed.

You know, the responses to this thread have (unfortunately) buttressed a growing opinion that you SWA boys are indeed arrogant. I posted a heads up about a situation. I didn't call you guys names and I didn't even state that you're long landings were intentional to the pilots unlucky enough to be following. I just told those men to keep their heads up and be aware.

Your responses have been somewhat less than people department material.

Whatever.

Actually, the ones you need to worry about at ANY airport are the Citations.... I've gone around 3 times in the last few years with 5 mile separation on final every time, because they like to roll to the end. I always give at least 7 miles if I know far enough in advance, or slow to minimum approach speed asap, to avoid the go around with these guys, and sometimes that's even too close

Maybe it's the 60 knot approach speed, or the brakes suck on those planes, or maybe the pilots are just arrogant. Just a heads up... be forewarned ;) ......

Oh, and I never roll to the end in FLL, as it really doesn't do anything. Ground will almost always hold the outbounds on the ramp until the inbounds pass.

Good point, next time I have the poor fortune to get a FLL turn, I'll take the time to time the SWA "long landings" versus an AA landing.

Now that's funny....... you'll still get to the gate at the same time though..... ;)

Sometimes.

Other times the "quips" come from the oddest sources. If my airline had put two jets thru the fence into a gas station and an intersection, and I was the safety poobah, I might not want to make "quips" like this:

"... Not everyone agrees that the longer working schedule is a problem. "It's hard for me to feel sorry for them," said Jeffrey Hefner, the safety chairman of the union that represents pilots at Southwest Airlines, who have always flown longer hours than pilots at older airlines.

"They're a bunch of spoiled brats," he said. "Historically, this has been a really cushy job once you get to the majors. You make a lot of money, and you don't have to fly a lot. But there had to be a market balancing at some point." ...

Hey Razor!

I bet you feel pretty stupid now that Hefner has come on here to deny that he ever talked to this reporter, huh?

Oh, yeah...I almost forgot these:

You're hung like a grasshopper.
Your college GPA was lower than your BAC.
Your dog craps in the neighbor's yard...a lot!
Sometimes, just to see what it's like to be in the Air Force, you squat to pee.

You're on Forum Probation with me, jarhead!

xo,

Yourself
