Best Jet to fly

I've flown a bunch of jets, some big and some small. They all have their pro's and con's.

Today I was flying the Falcon 50EX: we were light and we were empty . I saw 10,000 FPM on the VSI! Cruising at 365 KIAS at FL220. Pretty Sweet having 3 Throttles in your hand as well. Been up to FL470 in the thin air.

I used to fly an old Citation 500, it felt like you strapped that baby on. Great cockpit visability. A real treat to hand fly. So what if it looks like a frog, I loved it.

Had the opportunity to fly a classic airliner, the DC-9. In fact, I flew the second one ever built. It was like going back in time. Pretty neat pushing that big 'ol beast through the sky.

Also flew the high tech and sexy G-IV as well. That thing is a technological wonder.

Then there is my first jet, the Falcon 20. As someone else here said, there is always a special place in your heart for that first one . Looks faster than it is, but still a cool airplane.

However, to reiterate what someone else said.... "The best jet is the one that pays the bills!"

my only jet time is the CitationIV which was pretty cool. Nice airplane slow and fast. Not a whole lot of expierience and the rest is in the SIM

Lrjet35 -awsome airplane. Of course real life would make it much more fun but that plane just was kick@$$.

CE550 -good slow in and out of smaller airports. Dropped that into Merrit Island no problem in the simulator. Climbed okay and had an okay cruise speed. Nothing like the lear.

B7374 -This was a great airplane in the sim cause of the FMS. But there isn't a whole lot of flying that airplane. Enter where you are, where your going, route, weight, temps etc... and hit the execute button, click on the FD and LNAV/Vnav and your off. Just kinda sit an watch.

B7672 -Greatest airplane ever made was the 767 in my book. As a pax i love it. spent many many hours in the back. Read the performance. Flew the TWA sims in STL 3 years ago. Did a course at riddle in them. Awsome airplane. Big, climbed well, i love the FMS, pretty much the same as the 737 but just a bigger better airplane in my book. But im speaking from 20 hours of sim time in both. I know hardly anything about them. Just that i would be happy as a SWA 737 pilot or a DAL 767 pilot. those planes just kick @$$. Did seem to have trouble getting near .80 in the 737 at 310. seemed like it liked the .76 area better. The 767 liked .82 and so did I.

My favorite so far is the Twin Otter, but then again I don't have much to compare it to.

I wouldn't mind tearing around in an F-16C (Block 30/32 or 50/52) with Drowning Pool "Let the bodies hit the floor" going on in the background!

Not bad, (and you can call me old-fashioned) but I'd much prefer a fully-armed A-10 at 50 feet with AC/DC's "Shoot to thrill" blasting.

Either that, or Mach 2+ in an old F-106 with a couple nuclear-tipped Genie air-to-air missiles. That would be cool. heh heh

I've got about 0.5 hours in a DC-8-73...that was sweet.

All the jets I think would be really, really cool to fly aren't around anymore: F-86, B-47, DeHavilland Comet, Convair 880...

Hands down . . . . . The Queen of the Skies - the Boeing 747-200. Sweet flying airplane.

Lrjtcaptain - The 767 is basically a nice airplane, but the -200 is a dog. The -300 is a MUCH better airplane from a flying and utility standpoint.

The B737 with -17's is fun, but the most fun is flying a B747 like a regional jet on a 30 minute leg.

The jet I'm flying now, which happens to also be my first jet the
Citation Ultra.I do have that desire to get in a 727 before they are all sent to the cruel death of the recycle yards.

Agree with Dragon on the 767 200 vs 300. The 300 was by far a better flying airplane.

As for me, it's a tough call between the 767-300 and the 757. Both GREAT airplanes.

The 737-800, on the other hand, is a piece of junk (although I would give my arm to be back in one right now!). The cockpit is too small, the engines take too long to spool up, the overhead panel is circa 1965, the autopilot pitch control is AWFUL, the VNAV function of the FMS is worthless, and the gear is too stiff. Other than that, it's fine!

The 737-200 was a pu$$ycat. So easy to land, handled beautifully. Only problem was the FMS sucked (I know, I know, I'm kidding) and it was too underpowered.

I'm glad I got a chance to be an f/e on the 727, and it was my first jet, so I'll always have a soft spot for it, but it was getting pretty long in the tooth!

Despite what everyone else thinks, I thought that the md-80 was pretty nice. I enjoyed flying it, but maybe it was because it was the first jet I got an f/o bid on. Granted, it was slow, and the autothrottles were pretty rough, but I thought it landed pretty good, the fms was fine, the systems weren't too complicated, and the handling, while not exactly stable, was fun.

All in all, I would say that the 757 was my favorite, followed VERY closely by the 767-300.

I hope that I haven't bored anyone with that little rant. I meant to just vote for the 757, but figured I would talk about some others. It's been a while since my furlough, I must be going through withdrawl!

I fly a 737-800 with the latest and the greatest. For all the reasons that DFJ proclaimed I can't wait to bid out of the airplane. It is great for ETOPS stuff and it does do well with fuel, I call it the Voltswagon Bus. We might be getting 757's I will be the first to bid..... as for now I'll just have to put up with it.

My favorite-Lear 24B with -6 engines and a "straight" wing, I love that airplane. Humiliating, sitting at LSV and watching the Thunderbirds going through their practice paces---Oh well.
