What's the best jet to fly (any size)? Maybe we could focus towards the most modern, particularly the a/c with the most toys up front for the pilot to help him/her to their destination. Kind of like the a/c that can do it all by itself.

My only real life experience is the 172, but I spend some time with MS FlightSim in an accuarate (panel, avionics) emb-145. From where I am sitting it's very impressive.

Most fun... I vote for old beat up Lear 25/35 check haulers. No fancy instrments just raw hardcore flying. Best part is the boxes don't complain when you are having "fun".

The CL-65 is pretty fun at FL370, but I would like to try the 727 before they're all gone.

Most fun I’d have to agree with the others, an old 25, two AM out of Los Angeles, empty with 3500 lbs of gas and two pilots eager to get home.

But focusing to the modern end, as per your question, there is not question, hands down the G-IV.

Lear 35. But, then again, it's the only jet I've flown.

high performance takeoff

Although I have little to compare it with I gotta believe that It dont get much better than repositoning out of Hartsfield in a 25D with 2000lbs of jetA. Departure clearance is "acelerate to 250kts as rapidly as possible, climb maintain 10,000 ft". Might not impress the fighter jocks on this board but leveling off at 10,000 in about a minute in a half sure gets my heart racing!!

Off course everybody's favourite airplane is probably the first jet that they flew. I guess it's that milestone in everybodies career.

But the old Lears are the most fun, i even want to say the older 24's i fly a 23 converted to a 24. with the straight wing and no reversers.
Needless to say for the people that know them that take-pffs are aa lot more fun than landings with these planes. 4000 feet is a little short for these jets.

On a lighter note, a few weeks ago i took off from Akron, Oh offcourse nice and cold, completely topped off with fuel, and 1 flightnurse in the back sleeping. i did a normal take off and decided to time it, the elevation there is about 1200'
we passed through 10.000' 43 seconds after take off, our 18.000 feet check was at 1 minute 50 seconds.......
Sometimes when we take off with a really light load of fuel it is REALLy fun to see what performance you get.

Too bad that most of the time we as pilots get treated pretty bad, and I wish i had a job somewhere else, and then a week later we have so much fun flying that I truly believe that flying for any other company or another jet it would be a huge step back stick and rudder-wise, but it might be a lot better for your career ( and maybe for your life-expectancy)

in one short sentence.... fun..yes, pain in butt sometimes...definetely, just walk that thin line, and try not to get carried away in either of them.

I agree....Lear 25!!

did that guy DEPART with 2000lbs gas and got to 10,000ft?

If I remimeber correct at that weight - 10,000fpm was pretty easy (If you have the good VSI's) - but I think fuel flow was like 7000lbs/hr....ouch...

My humble suggestion....do yourself a favor and have your Capt. throw some more fuel on-board!! - It wont stay in there long anyways...

I don't have a great deal of variety of experience, but I would have to say a Lear60. It performs somewhat like a twenty series Lear, yet is a little more comfortable.

regards,
8N

PS. flown: DC9-80 (1,2,3,& 7) DC9-30 & -40. Lear 35, 55, and 60.

my guess is the f-22 raptor. not only does it fly nice, but you can shoot things

Max pay + Max time off + no commute =fun

I've never met a plane that I didn't like!

Upon further review, I guess in this market and economy the best jet to fly is the one you are currently in.

Dammit, Citationlover beat me to it. I was going to say something small and fast with guns. Not that I've had any experience but it sure the hell seems fun............

I've flown a bunch of jets, some big and some small. They all have their pro's and con's.

Today I was flying the Falcon 50EX: we were light and we were empty :D. I saw 10,000 FPM on the VSI! Cruising at 365 KIAS at FL220. Pretty Sweet having 3 Throttles in your hand as well. Been up to FL470 in the thin air.

I used to fly an old Citation 500, it felt like you strapped that baby on. Great cockpit visability. A real treat to hand fly. So what if it looks like a frog, I loved it.

Had the opportunity to fly a classic airliner, the DC-9. In fact, I flew the second one ever built. It was like going back in time. Pretty neat pushing that big 'ol beast through the sky.

Also flew the high tech and sexy G-IV as well. That thing is a technological wonder.

Then there is my first jet, the Falcon 20. As someone else here said, there is always a special place in your heart for that first one ;). Looks faster than it is, but still a cool airplane.

However, to reiterate what someone else said.... "The best jet is the one that pays the bills!"

JetPilot500

An F-15, full afterburners on takeoff, with hotties lining the runway. That would rock.

my only jet time is the CitationIV which was pretty cool. Nice airplane slow and fast. Not a whole lot of expierience and the rest is in the SIM

Lrjet35 -awsome airplane. Of course real life would make it much more fun but that plane just was kick@$$.

CE550 -good slow in and out of smaller airports. Dropped that into Merrit Island no problem in the simulator. Climbed okay and had an okay cruise speed. Nothing like the lear.

B7374 -This was a great airplane in the sim cause of the FMS. But there isn't a whole lot of flying that airplane. Enter where you are, where your going, route, weight, temps etc... and hit the execute button, click on the FD and LNAV/Vnav and your off. Just kinda sit an watch.

B7672 -Greatest airplane ever made was the 767 in my book. As a pax i love it. spent many many hours in the back. Read the performance. Flew the TWA sims in STL 3 years ago. Did a course at riddle in them. Awsome airplane. Big, climbed well, i love the FMS, pretty much the same as the 737 but just a bigger better airplane in my book. But im speaking from 20 hours of sim time in both. I know hardly anything about them. Just that i would be happy as a SWA 737 pilot or a DAL 767 pilot. those planes just kick @$$. Did seem to have trouble getting near .80 in the 737 at 310. seemed like it liked the .76 area better. The 767 liked .82 and so did I.

My favorite so far is the Twin Otter, but then again I don't have much to compare it to.
