So, who has the best commuting contracts out there? I am base the word "best" on consecutive days at home and the ease of travel to/from the work site. Any input is appreciated. If you don't live in the US, please mention the country from which you commute.

I hav hear KAL might be good, live anywhere on network with biz upgradeable to first.

I thought Vietnam Airlines was only a 6 on/2 off schedule. Is this a recent change?

Yes, it will be on a straight prorated basis compared to the 6/2 schedule, they are trying to attract more pilots, several flights canceled everyday now due to insufficient number of crews. Also expecting a 15 to 20 percent raise in salary within 60 days, they are concerned. Several pilots on the four weeks on, four weeks off schedule now.

Added: Two hour ETOP's approval has just ben received for the 77, expect flights to the west coast to begin by the end of the year (I hope).

I agree with say again over. Vietnam seems to be the best option for commuting. You could pretty much live anywhere in the world with the new roster patterns.
 
Hi!

Air India was 6 weeks on/2 off, and they just went to a 30/30 option, where they fly you business class. The 30/30 thing is new for Asia, as they can't get enough N. American pilots.

Rumours of US basing opening in the future for a variety of Asian operators.

Cathay pilots can be N. American based.

[FONT='Verdana','sans-serif']I've talked to Parc, new contract 4/4 a bit low in pay $5200/month for FO including living expenses, that's it, plus you have to find your own transportation to and from work at base. Other contracts (Direct Personnel) offer around 5500 Euros/month plus they pay for your lodging 5 star hotel suite 6 on/2 off, plus round trip tickets every time you come home, transportation to and from work at base. The way the dollar is right now I take the Euro any time. This contract with Parc at Vietnam should be at least around $8000 lodging included. I will wait a bit; if they need people they are going to have to pay allot more. [/FONT]

By the way, you need twice the money to live in Europe.
 
Other then the above listed websites, wasinc.com, directpersonel.com, aeroprofessional.com, parc.com are their other contract firms?
 
Thanks for the info! I am going to do this move and of course looking for lots of info. Right now the contracts to Japan look the highest paid but I am also to understand they are the toughest to get. What about India, Vietnam, etc? Are they as tough to get on with? Thanks

It seems like alot of the contract jobs require a Type rating so what are us to do which do not hold a type? Also hearing some Asian airlines will never let an ex-pat upgrade?

Generally this used to be true, not so much anymore, I'm a contractor at an Asian airline that has started upgrading in an effort to attract new pilots, within a few weeks we will also accept non-type-rated pilots, we have at least 4 A320's parked everyday due to lack of crews, we have one A330 and two A321's wet-leased. Many pilots seem to be heading to the ME where salaries and benefits keep going up.
 
Checked the Vietnam website out of curiosity, it was a little confusing but it seemed like in the requirements they required 1000 hours on Type, I think it was even PIC. Is that correct? Also how does 6 on 2 off equate to a good schedule for commuting?
 
For those of you "commuting" back to the States, how much is the average airfare for a round trip ticket? I know it depends on your destination but I just want some numbers to have an idea.

If I remember right they only want 500 on type. For my commute I use United, they have two flights a day from Hochiminh, if I book far enough in advance a ticket runs about $1200 for round trip to Vegas, I didn't come from a major so have no additional discounts to use.

They are working hard on flying to the US, maybe around the end of this year?

CX880, no 6/2 is not too good for commuting, but you can also choose a 5/3 or 4/4 schedule, salary is prorated from the $10,600.00.

After all of the allowances, your 1st year FO pay is over $9000 / month. Taxes are up to you.

Oh, and you get to pick your days off with very few exceptions.

What are the allowances that are included in the $9000? Is the $2000 you mention for the ticket included in that $9000 and is it each month? Do they pay the $2000 even if you decide not to travel?

Which taxes? Just USA or do you pay tax to the Japanese as well?

No Japanese taxes as you are not a resident and you are employed by a contract company that is not a Japanese company. Taxes are your responsibility depending on your citizenship / residency.

1st year FO pay is about $6160. 2nd goes up to $7200. Both are based on a 70 hour guarentee.

in addition you receive:

$2000 commuting or Business class. You get the money and can buy a ticket or use Zeds. You keep whatever you dont use.
$884 per diem
$500 housing
$550 retirement contribution

I think that is all. Everything is paid in cash and you spend it how you see fit.
