Hey everyone,
What's everyone's take on dealing with being sick? I've been with my current company for about two years and I've only missed one trip due to being sick (actually, I didn't even call in sick, but the guy I was flying with tipped off our administrative people. After I found out he told them, I called in and told 'em I didn't want to wave off the trip, but they already had someone to replace me and wouldn't let me back on!) On that occasion I felt sick, but not so sick I couldn't work. But it was pretty close to my threshold for being 'too' sick.
I absolutely, completely despise and detest waving off if I don't absolutely have to.
I got back from a few days in Honduras and D.R. Well, Montezuma came after me with a vengeance and now four days later I feel absolutely horrible. I am not sure if it's a result of something I ate or drank down there or if I might have caught something else after I returned, because usually the gestation period for me is around three days. Whatever I've got I feel like it's getting worse.
I have a five day trip starting tomorrow and unless I start feeling better soon I don't see how I can make it. I can't keep anything down, including water, and it's a 4+ hour flight.
Still, the thought of calling in sick makes me feel even more, uh, sick.
Anyone else have any thoughts here? Maybe I'm being irrational but I feel like a real pudwacker for letting this get me down. And I definitely don't want to get a reputation as the guy who keeps getting sick (although is twice in two years bad? I don't know.) My airplane keeps a nice schedule and I'm well taken care of by my company so I really don't want to let them down.
