Does anyone know what aircraft and bases the February class dates at US Airways are being assigned? Are all the new hires going East?

Please tell me why a 190 f/o makes more than a 737and a320 fo ? I know it's only really for hte first year but why would it be more at all??

Latest from cp was 50 new hires out west this year. 7 to 737 and 43 airbus. 5 A330s coming to Phx early 09

what should be known is- if you are a new hire and are placed out east- you do not have a right to bid out west until there is a joint contract. And vice-versa- if you get placed out west- you are considered a west pilot and cannot bid east until a joint contract is in place.

I know that the all of the America West poolies were placed East- and now get to watch new hires junior to them placed West, and East furloughees never hired by the West get to bid West- but they cannot. I would be frustrated by that.

Can anyone shed any light on how this works? Do i have it right?

The real question is why doesn't the 73 and AB earn more? And that's b/c it can't happen until a joint contract is in place.

The 190 pays more b/c it's the only new airplane- and so the only part that had to be negotiated since bk...

It's not just the first year though... FO pay starts at 41, then goes to $43 and ups only a dollar or two every year. So it's nice to start out high in the beginning- but it's just not high enough. It doesn't work out to be a livable wage in the long run... and there will be FO's stuck on it. Not to mention Capt's earn $21/hour less on the top end than their Republic counterparts flying the E175. I was shocked at that, but it's true.

The nic award is not that big of a deal. It was fair and just a bump in the road for those guys in the end. What's awful is a BK contract in place for an airline that's profitable. A joint contract and support for ALPA in the process is very important.

When I went to PHX for my interview, the way it was explained to us regarding how it was going to work with the new hires on East-West issue was that, we were being hired as the new US Airways employee and that we would not be belonging to either East or West. Respective contract would be used for the purpose of pay calculations, etc., however, depending on which side's former property we ended up laning on.

True- but there is not language in the transition agreement to allow new hires to bid back and forth between the east and west. This is a difference that hasn't been explained well. Check it out will you, and report back?
Thx.

I would be happy for them if i'm wrong- but don't think i am.

As a former poolie I was told that I would be placed in the east on the E190. I would not be able to hold PHX until there was a joint contract.

I live in Tempe, AZ. I said thanks but no thanks. If I had been able to bid west after a 1 year seat lock that would have been a different story.

I will certainly do that. I will try to find out as much as I can when I am in PHX next time.

Sorry if this has been covered....

Can East floks get awarded west bases, and can West get east etc..?

How long will one be on the E170/90 before they can effectively bid other equipment?

I've heard there is one year seat lock in E190. After that, you can bid for any position you want. There is no E170 at mainline. Got sold off to Republic during its bankruptcy days.

Here's the first bit of news RE classes that we've received in quite some time. For what it's worth....

New Hires: The Membership Committee recently hosted a joint east-west dinner at Marjerle's in downtown Phoenix to welcome 11 new-hire pilots and two returning America West pilots who have been on military leave.

The two America West pilots, Shane Butler (P3077) and James Jamir (P3022), were both on active duty with the Air Force. Shane was hired in October 2004 and was flying the KC-10 out of McGuire AFB. James, a May 2004 new-hire, was flying the C-17 out of McChord AFB. Both are going to LAS to fly the Airbus.

The 11 new-hires are all going to the east operation to fly the EMB-190 and will be based out of PHL.

Future Classes: As of today, there has not been a change in the Company's plan to hire 300 pilots this year and classes are currently scheduled as far out as June. The January 7 class had eight pilots and all went out east. Adding that to the February 4 class brings us to a total of 19 new-hires, all of whom are east pilots.

We can expect to see more west new-hires in the upcoming classes with the next one starting on February 25, with 12 pilots, eight of whom are going to the west. After that, the plan is to have one class in March, two in April, and one in both May and June. Including the February 25 class, the total number of west new-hires is 39 with the majority going to the Airbus in PHX.

That is great news. Finally after four years I might actually get off reserve....yup, I'm sure enjoying my windfall.

Yeah, if this all wasn't so true, it would be funny. This is not how I saw this deal playing out. A lot of fellow junior guys are having to make tough decisions right now. More than a few are close to or have been recalled by American. I just ran into a guy in the class in front of me and he's going to Virgin America.

There is so much doom and gloom out there - you have to wonder if people are buying into it too much. For sure, USAPA would mean many more years of BS with low pay and less career protection (for what - spite...pride?), but to assume a union change would destroy the company and cause us to liquidate is far too dramatic in my opinion.

RE: Reserve - There are only 2 or 3 people left in the scheduling department I can speak to without my blood boiling...3+ years is far too long for the same group of pilots and schedulers to co-mingle.

I don't think an American recall would be a tough decision. That is a downright no-brainer when you factor in immediate payraise plus an A and a B fund for retirement.

The E-190 came on to the property after the first wave of concessions....

Sorry Waveflyer already covered this.......

In fact one of our merger committee members who would understand our supposed windfall better than anyone just bailed on US Airways to go back to American.

It sadens me to say but, I really can't blame anyone for wanted to leave this place. The most senior guy in my class (who came from USAir) has already bailed. I remember running into him one day right after the merger and he told me flat out, "there's no way I'm gonna deal with those guys again". Now he's gone. When I got here there was so much optmisim and good moral it was amazing, now I guess I'm here just for QOL issues. This place is gonna down in history as the one airline that coulda, woulda, shoulda had it all...

I assume you bid on a/c and bases when you show up for INDOC rather than being assigned. I can only hope that there are eight guys senior to me who want to go out West. Good luck to me!
