The change would enable minority-stake foreign owners to exercise control over U.S. airlines in some cases. The EU has indicated that approval of the Open Skies deal hinges on the U.S. relaxing its ownership laws. The arrangement would eliminate some restrictions on E.U. and U.S. airline flights between the two continents

I am all for minority ownership by foreign airlines. There really is no more room for LCCs in the States, something Virgin America is finding out now. There is a lack of gate space (unless a Legacy tumbles), and Southwest already has their feet in place to kick anyone hard who comes in for a taste. But, some foreign ownership (a set %--like up to 49%) can give foreign airlines a good investment opportunity, and allow the struggling lagacies some better credit to modernize their fleets. If the legacies ever post a profit again, then the foreign owners can sell their shares and make a nice profit. I believe Air Canada invested in Continental (not to 49%), and did sell and made a good profit. (this was before they themselves almost liquidated)

There is A LOT of talk over here about a closer relationship with BA. Even so far to go as a merger. KLM/Air France did it, it is far more plausible now than any time in the past. The future will be very interesting.

Yes, I can't wait for Air France to buy 49% of DL. I already have the black baret, and I have a tight black and white shirt with a turtle neck, and all black pants. I will grow a small mustache, and I will say stuff like "you stupid Americans, get in your seats!" and "you are my flower, and I am your bee, monsharee....."
