Done some rudimentary searches on the usual websites (including this one) for a link to a movie showing a B707 doing an aileron roll. Anyone got clues?

It was the Boeing 720, which was the prototype for the 707. It was during Seafair, which is a big boat race and festival held each year in Seattle on Lake Washington (I think it was last week.) Anyway the test pilot rolled the airplane twice right over 1000s of fans, and Boeing Management. The video plays about every 15 minutes on Discovery Wings Channel.

As for online video, try Google search with words like "Boeing 720"+ "Seafair." or something like that....

By the way, the airplane was still parked at Boeing Field and could be seen when driving by on I-5 in the late '90s. Might still be there.

Here's a place to start:

tex

The test pilots name was Tex and he did two and that was the major selling point and why the contract went to boeing and not Douglas. At the time the upper brass went nuts after it Tex was a genious who got them millions.

The 720 is a shortened 707 model that was flown by United and a couple others. Tex was flying the -80 when he rolled it.

Read the Book, "The Legend and the Legacy; The Story of the Boeing Company"

Tex rolled that bird twice, once going out over the crowd, and then again, coming back. The CEO of Boeing at the time was furious. He said in the book, that it took him 20 years to get over his anger with Tex. He said he NEVER really forgave him for that 'stunt', but after 20 years, he overcame the anger.

I've seen the same picture a couple of times in a couple of Seattle area restaurants that appears to be a shot of the left wing and engines at the top of the roll during one of those rolls. The background is definately around the Lake Washington area. I never heard of anyone on board during that flight other than the pilots, but then again, the only name really mentioned was Tex Johnson. Seafair is usually held the first weekend in August and can attract hundreds of thousands, especially when the hydro races were even bigger than they are today in Seattle. Has anyone else seen this picture? I think one of them I saw was at Tony Roma's or Winner's in Tukwila.
