If you were "qualified" enough to fly for a major in 1989, and you had job offers in hand for USAir and AWA, which company would you have went to work for?

Everyone takes a chance when they sign on with an airline, seniority being what it is in the business. But saying somehow that AWA was the "place to be" when this merger occurred because they hired a few pilots and hadn't furloughed 10 years into their seniority list is being less than truthful.

Compared to USAirways, America West was the place to be Mr Alexander Dumas.

...And AWA had how much of their own money to acquire USAir? So much money they needed that goverment loan for bailout after 9/11? AWA used borrowed funds for the merger. So, IMO, it should be DOH for the merge.

You're an idiot!

Yeah, it's hard not to get worked up though when certain US Air pilots spout off about including the furloughs and then going date of hire. In the same breath they have the gall to talk about what's fair. I'd like a couple million bucks and a Lamborghini Muira, but I don't think I'm entitled to actually get it. Especially if I was on the verge of being on the street. But, then again a lot of people say look at the legal papers. AWA aquired USAir, USAir should get stapled. I'm sure that same kind of mentality ruffles feathers at USAir.

So tell me, are you saying do not include the fuloughed guys? Just send them packing?

So you are saying that in 1989, you would have went to AWA instead of USAirways?

To each his own.

Exactly, to each his own. Every time I got asked if I planned on trying to get out of AWA and I replied no, the response I got nine times out of ten was much the same as if all the sudden I sprouted antlers on my forehead. Believe me, I got tired of subtly being called a "loser" just because I happened to like where I worked.

AWA has always been the airline of choice...... to me. All I want out of this deal is to keep what I have, I'm not salivating over anything the east has. Likewise I don't want the east guys to be recouping their losses of the last few years on my back.
