It seems that everyone is glassy eyed over the AWA/USAIR merger news and not really noticing whats happening at UAL today. Looks like the IAM didn't come to an agreement and has went to the courts asking for a ruling on the legality of a strike. If the bankruptcy judge comes back with a ruling today allowing UAL to throw out labor contracts, then it looks like the IAM is going to walk. This will have a much more noticiable effect on the US airline industry than the AWA/UAIR merger. I hope it all works out for UAL employees.

The term "legality of the strike" always makes me laugh. Isn't it a moot point in this case, since the IAM knows if they strike, they will doom the company? I would say labor has the upper hand here, they just don't know it. They should be demanding mgmt cuts.
