The trick to getting an application here is get someone on the property to do a letter of rec for you and turn it in along with your resume!!!

Hey W.D. Appreciate the info, unfortunate for me however the only person i remember that went over their is Bacon not sure if you know him,i worked with him in DFW at ASA, but lost touch. Besides the LOR any rumor of them putting something on the web. Or a # I can call. HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!

In the infamous words of one of our Alaska "brothers" on another thread, "If you don't have an LOR that probably means you can't get an LOR, which means we probably don't want you."

I don't understand the coveted LOR. Everyone goes through the same hiring process so it doesn't make any sense to me that one pilot wouldn't write another a LOR.

The pilot that wrote the LOR didn't hire the pilot, they only recommended him or her to be hired. the company hired them and the company decided if that person was worth hiring or not. A LOR doesn't guarantee a JOB!

I know some folks at X airline that got over there and aparently drank a little too much of the cool-aid. Although if I was a military pilot all things would be different and letters from those who don't even know me would be coming my way. I think the civilian pilots need to lighten up. They don't dock your pay if your recomendee turns out to be a dud. (as far as I know) You still come to work and fly your trips.

If you have been flying part 121 for over a year, you obviously can get through the training and have gone through probation and know how the game is played.

By the way anyone want to write me a letter for AWA.... hahaha

Well said, captain.

Civilian pilots really seem to think that if they didn't fly with someone there is just no way they can give them an LOR. Since when does the letter have to claim a pilot's superior flying capabilities? Why not attest to the applicant's integrity and the fact that their personality and attitude would be a good fit for the company.

Since being a member of the LOR club has become the only way to get an interview at most companies, we should change our attitude that you can only write a letter for the pilot you spent 2 months flying with and was your sim partner during upgrade.

Be considerate of these poor guys that you only knew from the pilot lounge. They may be in a position to write you a letter someday.

IMO LOR-mania has little to do with the actualy quality of the applicant. Mainly it's a realization that in the current environment with 10,000 highly qualified applicants out there for every good job there has got to be a way to weed 'em out a little, and for many H.R. departments simply restricting interviews to those pilots with an app. attached to a personal LOR from a company pilot is a satisfactory screening system.

I think LOR's can speak volumes about the quality (or should I say apparent quality) of an applicant -- depending on who writes it, and what and how it's written. Even more important is who READS it.

Having recently flown a trip with a check airman that is FREQUENTLY on the interview panel, LOR's and verbal recommendations can carry a lot of weight. While we finished breakfast one day, he actually got someone scheduled for an interview based on a Company pilot's recommendation directed to this check airman.

Why is this? I think Reepicheep hit the nail on the head when he/she said that it's a form of screening. With so many qualified pilots looking for work, many companies are taking more efforts to hire based on personality, as well as their qualifications.

Again, this is only my opinion based on my experiences.
