I just sent in my AWA application. How long has it taken anyone to get an interview call from when you sent in the application?

Thanks

It usually takes anywhere from three to six weeks to get back to you. Keep in mind that this varies so the numbers can go in either direction. Someone mentioned that we were about three months behind on just getting out apps.

All the best to you.

This is one of the great unknowns of AWA.

I think if your application has a LOR associated with it, you will get called before ones without one.

For me it took almost 10 months and I had a LOR.
Granted, the Iraq war started during this time so I think it backed things up.

I have heard of some people getting calls within a few weeks of submitting.

It's definitely worth the wait. This is a great company and I have no regrets.

Good luck!

It sounds like a LOR is key. I met Tracy T at an Air Inc job fair and sent in an app about 8 months ago. Never heard anything.

Good luck,

Catfish

I know its all speculation but any word on how many more they're looking to hire? Just sent in my app also and hoping for a call.

I sent my app in March 30th, interviewed on the 15th of April and was in class May 3rd. I should have bought lottery tickets I guess. Lots of rumors floating around the hallways about aircraft orders so something is up.

Hansoma,

That's awesome that you were able to get in so quickly. That's about the fastest I ever heard anyone move from street to class.

The airplane rumor mill is really in high speed now that Doug Parker said their will be an announcement in the coming weeks at yesterday's shareholder meeting.

Hopefully some more 737's. Yeah I know, wishful thinking!

C-73, no way. Who needs guppies it's all about the bus my man:D :D :D

Time

Hey all,
I just got the offer on the 18th for a class in july. While I was there I overheard someone say that they are going to wait until they get through the current stack of app's. Apparently they have some 1600 app's to go through. Sorry, I don't want to dash anyones hope here but it may be a while if you have not received an app yet. But hey this is nothing more than a newby talking here also, so take it for what it's worth. Needless to say I thought the inteview was a great experience and I was more than impressed with the company. Great place and a great future...

Dumb question

Just got my app. Does the fact you got the app put you on the "short list" for interviewing, or does everyone who submits a resume get one?

Short list

It is my understanding that if you get an app you have joined a shorter list. Maybe whisky driver or others can comment but I believe to get an app in todays market you must be recommended. And if you are recommended than your chances of an interview are that much better. I would say that each "phase" becomes more stringent. Those with a strong recommendation that accompanies their app will interview first and so on and so forth. Best of luck to ya man! I'm on cloud nine right now and can't wait to get started. See ya on the line.

The toughest part of getting a call here is getting the app!!!! It has been my understanding that if you get the app and you have an LOR you will get a call. Now when you get a call is anybodies guess. I don't know how that part works but getting that app is key here.

The strain ground school has put on my brain these last few weeks has affected my memory concerning non-aircraft specific subjects and I need to clarify something. I received my application on March 14th and sent it back on the 15th. I got the call for the interview on the 30th. Everything else is correct.

That's still pretty quick and I feel EXTREMELY fortunate be here! Good Luck to everyone applying!:D

You did get called really quick but that's neither here nor there at this point the real point is that you got called and hired, welcome!!!! That rating you have in like equipment didn't hurt either. I had two pilot LOR's one CSR and one pilot recruiter applied in aug hired in nov. Lovin every minute of it!!!!

See ya out there.

Hansoma and Whisky Driver,

Are you really enjoying AWA? I ask because I have a friend that went there this year and quit after a few months because he said there was too much griping and complaining in the cockpit.

Is there that type of environment at AWA? Another close friend is thinking about dumping a really good corporate job to go there, and I'd like him to have the straight scoop before he decides.

Hansoma, how does it compare to HA? If recalled, will you go back?

Was your friend there prior to the contract being ratified? I know from my pilot friends that there was a lot of anger having to wait so long to get a contract.

I think in any work group there are factions that are unhappy. They will be that way no matter where they go. In my time there, I think I flew with about 5 pilots that I truly did not like. I figured that was a pretty good ratio. I was usually the first class FA, so I had to deal with the pilots a great deal. Most of the men and women that I flew with were very professional and I never had a doubt about my safety while flying with them. They backed me up on any customer problems and took our concerns very seriously after 9/11. Plus, many of them were very fun to go out to dinner with on overnights and had a great senses of humor.

I really believe that it will turn around for the better at AWA. You have to understand with having been through bankruptcy, almost losing the company again after 9/11 and having dealt with a CEO (Franke) that had no clue how to deal with people, that is may take some time for people to trust anything management says again. They treat the Pilots pretty well there and do not hassle them. The FA management is a whole other story! :(

Thanks for the reply, Kathy. He went in December or January, just a few months ago. I don't know when the contract stuff was going on. And, while I appreciate your comments, I know that a pilot's perspective will many times be different than that of a flight attendant. Most pilots seem outwardly very friendly and professional. The key is how they act when the cockpit door is closed.

Oh, I hear you! :) Many times when there would be complaining going on, I would walk out of the cockpit. But then again, I had that luxury. We all knew who the "no-fly" listees were; their reputation proceeded them. They told one Captain that if he got one more person on his "no-fly" list that he would be out of there.

The worst "cat-fight" I ever witnessed was between a die-hard Republican and a die-hard Democrat. That was one of those trips where I just called to find out what they needed and stayed out of the cockpit. :D

I have witnessed an altercation between a Captain and FO that was so bad, myself and the inflight crew feared for our safety during the flight. It was so bad at one point I thought they were going to go to blows when we were on the ground. I called Crew Scheduling from the airphone in the seat back (when we had them) and told them this Captain was nuts. (It was no surprise to them, as he had many other incidents prior to this) The FO was not doing anything to provoke this guy; the Captain was just crazy. He was replaced when we landed in LAS. When he found out he had been replaced, he came looking for us! This guy got his ticket pulled for a period of time and then was back out on the line pulling more stunts. I think he has either retired or is very close now.

But, like I said, it really was a good experience I had overall with the pilots there. Believe me, when your an FA, you catch on pretty quickly as to who the control freaks are and learn to stay away from them. I feel sorry for any pilot that is trapped with an idiot for 4 days, especially since 9/11 when you cannot get away from them.

Kathy

English,

Wow, that's pretty intense!!! Well two things, first I have yet to experience anything less than professionalism here at AWA! Second It is kind of difficult understand why someone would leave employment at a major carrier for that unless there was another job or that person was independently wealthy!!! But hey, to each his own, right??

I have enjoyed the people that I have worked with and the environment thus far.

Thanks for the reply Wisky.

He went back to the job he had before he went to AWA. Like I said, another friend asked me for advice based on what the first friend did, so just checking it out.

Thanks again.
